A pair of GE Dash 8's lead a short Chicago, Fort Wayne & Eastern FWCH as it rolls west over the IHB and heads towards the IHB Blue Island Yard. The train is rolling through the junction in Dolton, Illinois where a new diamond is waiting to be installed for the UP Villa Grove Subdivision crossing.

CF&E 2097 heads west near Bucyrus, Ohio. Signal 203 is the approach signal for the Colsan interlocking and one of the few active PRR style position lights left west of Bucyrus.
CFE FWCH gets underway at Hamlet with a colorful lashup on a beautiful late winter day. Thanks to a later call time, this train had a rare run with some noselight on their trip to Blue Island.

I took a lot of photos of us together after her cancer diagnosis. She came to accept the process, after fighting it at first. Maybe she just had less energy to resist as her disease progressed. She looks so acquiescent here.
The focus is off in this photo, and my hair is a mess, but there's something about it I like.
I have to get all the others scanned. I have a lot.
Gracie died on February 28, 2022. I loved her dearly.
Step back 37 years ago today to July 05, 1985 on today's CF&E. We are in Wheeler, Indiana to catch Amtrak 324, The Indiana Connection making the eastbound station stop in Wheeler. The was the 2nd, shorter and less patronized of the two Valpo Dummies, generally the first one west in the morning and the last one east in the evening. Few people used the Wheeler stop, halfway between Hobart and Valparaiso. A lot was changing very quickly. Within a month or so, Conrail's single tracking would retire the westward main seen here between Wanatah and Hobart. And in January, 1986, Amtrak cut the Dummy to just one each way, and the Indiana Connection seen here was discontinued.
As a side note, Amtrak 280 survives today, first as CSX 9998, and more recently as CSX 1.

After taking cars east of town to P&G, CFE09 heads back west by the station in downtown Lima, Ohio, on Sept. 3, 2024. CFE 2099 was built as PC 7905 in March 1971 with a slightly larger cab, marked by the shadows on the extension behind the numberboards and front windshield.
CFE FWCH heads west out of Hanna passing the distant signal for the Junction in town.
Powering this days train are the venerable SD40 Tunnel Motor, and 2 new to CFE C40-8Ws.

Der CFe 2/4 11 der Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen - Mürren ist am 20.10.2024 unterwegs als Regionalzug von der Grütschalp ins Bergdorf Mürren.
Für ihn und seine 4 Brüder aus den 1960ern war es der letzte Einsatztag.
Nach einer Infratrukturmodernisierung seit 2021, die etwa neue Bahnhofsanlagen sowie Bahnübergänge und Zugsicherung umfasste, werden in Zukunft neue, niederflurige Züge den Betrieb unter höherer Spannung übernehmen. Eine Erhöhung der Strecken-Vmax auf teilweise 50 Km/h erlaubt zusätzlich den 15'-Takt mit 2 statt bisher 3 Umläufen.
Die höhere Vmax und die Erhöhung der Stromspannung von 560V auf 750V sind Gründe, weshalb keiner der bisherigen Triebwagen auf der schönen Schmalspurbahn verbleiben kann. Der CFe 2/4 11 findet seine neue Heimat im Verkehrshaus der Schweiz, war er doch bis 2011 der wohl am längsten planmässig eingesetzte Triebwagen der Schweiz.

The CFe 2/4 11 of the Lauterbrunnen - Mürren mountain railway on its way on October 20, 2024 as a regional train from the Grütschalp to the mountain village of Mürren.
For him and his 4 brothers from the 1960s, it was the last day of operation.
After an infrastructure modernization since 2021, which included new station facilities as well as level crossings and train protection, new, low-floor trains will take over operations under higher voltage in the future. An increase in the route Vmax to 50 km/h in some cases also allows 15' cycles with 2 instead of the previous 3 used railcars.
The higher Vmax and the increase in voltage from 560V to 750V are reasons why none of the previous railcars can remain on the beautiful narrow-gauge railway. The CFe 2/4 11 finds its new home in the museum "Verkehrshaus", as it was probably the longest-serving railcar in Switzerland until 2011.

Am 20. Oktober wurde das Letze Mal mit den Alten Triebwagen gefahren. Deshalb wurde der CFe 2/4 11 ein Letztes Mal rausgeputzt und hat einen Umlauf der Planzüge gemacht.

Back when it was new, CF&E 4036 with its veterans' paint scheme leads CHFW through Ivanhoe after dark.
FWCH slowly runs around a tied down EB manifest at Lake siding with a former DT&I GP40-2 leader.

Passing through seemingly endless fields across western Ohio, CF&E's FWLI passes by a turned signal near Delphos, Ohio.
CFE 7819 and 7865 - both former CSX C40-8Ws - lead CHFW under Calumet Ave in Hammond, IN during the waning stages of the golden hour.
CF&E FWCH crosses over Deep River in Hobart, Indiana on June 30, 2021 with a colorful power consist.
On August 24th, a special program was organised for train photographers. The nostalgia train set of La Traction, CFe 4/4 601 and its control car Ct 702 travelled on the Glovelier-Saignelégier-Le Noirmont-Les Reussilles line of the Chemins de fer du Jura company, stopping for pictures alongside the journey.
In this picture, the CFe 4/4 601 is heading towards Glovelier, arriving at Pré-Petitjean controlled by its Ct 702 control car..

Augusztus 24-én fotósmenet szerveződött a La Traction nosztalgia szerelvényével a svájci Chemins de fer du Jura 1000mm-es nyomtávú vasútvonalán. A korhű fényezésű CFe 4/4 601-es motorkocsi és Ct 702-es vezérlőkocsija a Glovelier-Saignelégier-Le Noirmont-Les Reussilles útvonalon közlekedett, útközben fotómegállásokat tartva.
Pré-Petitjean állomására érkezik a fotósmenet reggel, a Ct 702 vezérlővel előrefelé.
