Community health worker, Madalitso with her counselling card talking to Chalewa about nutrition.
Chaliwa is 29 years old and has 5 children and is pregnant with her 6th child.. Her last bdaughter was born in 2005. She did not plan to have another child and was very surprised when she realized that she was pregnant. All 5 of her children have been birthed with the help of a traditional birth attendant.
The first thing that I discussed with her was her was her past birthing experience. We talked about; why she decided to give birth in the village, how the process went, what went right and finally what she did not like about the experience. Based on what she said she did not like about giving birth in the village. I told her that she has a much better option giving birth at the hospital. I told her that unlike Traditional birth attendants that help women based on experience and myths, hospital staff are trained to deal with whatever complications that may arise during birth.
When I was sure that she was convinced about giving birth at the hospital I then discussed nutrition with her. I told her that in order to make sure that the baby she is carrying develops well and healthy she must make sure that she eats all the six food groups, she must eat Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, Groundnuts, Fats, Oils and Legumes. I also discussed the danger signs that she must be on the lookout for. Lastly I asked her to go to the local clinic to have her blood tested for HIV and to receive a mosquito net that will keep her from getting infected with Malaria.

John riding only two weeks ago at Llanthony on his immaculate CCM, and in his CCM shirt.
I well remember the buzz at the Cholmondeley Demo in 2012 when it was rumoured that TT star John McGuiness was on his way over to the scrambles track. The great man turned up and was persuaded to do a couple of laps in Steve Long's sidecar. John - with the connivance of co-conspirator Ron Lippitt - made sure that Mr McGuiness was properly attired in a CCM shirt before setting out on the rough stuff.
