Strome Castle with the Isle of Skye in the far distance.

Castle Stalker is a picturesque medieval tower house built in the 14th century, situated on a tidal islet in Loch Laich, Scotland, and is known for being the "Castle of Arrrgh" in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I'm coming Back.....! Sorry my Flickr friends, I'm litle busy at the moment, tomorrow I will visit your photostream....!

Property of the Crown, then royal residence, Chenonceau Castle is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history.

For the historical background, the “Château des Dames” was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, and successively embellished by Diane de Poitiers then Catherine de Medici. Chenonceau was protected from the hardship of the revolution by Madame Dupin.

The iron, but very feminine, fist in the velvet glove has always preserved Chenonceau during times of conflict and war in order to make it forever a place of peace.

Chenonceau Castle has an exceptional museum collection of the Old Masters’ paintings: Murillo, Le Tintoret, Nicolas Poussin, Le Corrège, Rubens, Le Primatice, Van Loo... as well as an extremely rare selection of Flanders Tapestries from the 16th century.

Throughout its history, this emblematic Castle has always attracted talent and inspired great artists. Conveying beauty and combining the elegance of architecture with that of the spirit is also sharing an elegant way of life.

At Chenonceau Castle, the flower display in every sumptuously furnished room adds to its elegance. The room of Five Queens, the living room of Louis XIV, the grand gallery overlooking the River Cher, fabulous kitchens constructed in the piers of the bridge, the Green Cabinet of Catherine de Medici...Step by step, Chenonceau takes you back in time to share its dreams and reveal its secrets.

Like a castle out of a fairytale, Classiebawn sits on the peninsula of Mullaghmore and has Benbulben mountain as a backdrop.

Castle Stalker is a four-story tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe.

The original castle was a small fort, built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall who were then Lords of Lorn. Around 1388 the Stewarts took over the Lordship of Lorn, and it is believed that they built the castle in its present form around the 1440s. The Stewart's relative King James IV of Scotland visited the castle, and a drunken bet around 1620 resulted in the castle passing to Clan Campbell. After changing hands between these clans a couple of times the Campbells finally abandoned the castle in about 1840, when it lost its roof. In 1908 the castle was bought by Charles Stewart of Achara, who carried out basic conservation work. In 1965 Lt. Col. D. R. Stewart Allward acquired the castle and over about ten years fully restored it. Castle Stalker remains in private ownership and is open to the public at selected times during the summer.

The Château de Kaysersberg is a ruined castle in the commune of Kaysersberg in the Haut-Rhin département of France. It was built for Albin Woelflin, imperial bailiff for Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, around 1220. The site was acquired in 1227 by the lords of Horbourg and Ribeaupierre. It had an important strategic role as it allowed the Empire to close off one of the routes across the Vosges Mountains towards Lorraine. The circular keep is the oldest part of the castle and one of the first of this type in the upper Rhine valley. It was designed at the same time as the keep at the Château de Pflixbourg. The first curtain wall, which included the keep, was replaced after 1261 by a wall enclosing the keep, according to a contemporary plan, which allowed an uninterrupted circuit of the walls and strengthened defences on the side likely to be attacked. In the 14th century, the castle was the residence of the imperial provost or bailiff. Following a fire, the defence wall was raised to 4 m. In the second half of the 15th century, the castle defences were modernised in response to developments in artillery and firearms; the crenels were closed with wooden shutters, the merlons were equipped with firing slits and the round walk was completely covered. In this period, the castle was merely a sub-bailliage and personnel were heavily reduced. During the German Peasants' War (1524/5), the castle was besieged. It was restored by Lazarre de Schwendi in 1583.

According to archaeological excavations and studies, the castle was abandoned at the end of the 16th century. After the French Revolution, it was declared a national asset and sold to François Joseph Boecklin de Boecklinsau, who planted vines, and later passed to the Bastard family.

From a couple weeks ago, I hadn't gotten around to processing because my wacom drivers had gotten messed up, but it's all good now.

Castle Hill Lighthouse is in Newport, Rhode Island. It's one of the better sunset locations in New England. Being on the east coast, those are hard to come by. I had hope for more spectacular sunset fireworks than this, but the light was still decent to work with. There was thick haze just before the sun went behind a cloud bank, and it filtered the light pretty well.

This is a blend of several exposures for depth of field, and one extra shot for the sky.

the castle of Parga, built on a rock northwest of the town around 1450. Built by the Venetians and destroyed by the Ottomans in 1571. It even destroyed a second time and eventually rebuilt by the Venetians.

The castle of Parga has an architecture with polygons (polygon). The defense of the fort was supported by eight towers out elsewhere in the landscape. Main entrance, recognizable by the big arch, located on the southwest side of the castle. The fort is free to visit and you have a wonderful view of Parga and the islands off the coast. Upstairs is quite a climb from the port, but you walk past shops and cafes.

This medival looking castle was built by the Bavarian King Ludwig II in the late 19th century. Today is the most visited tourist attraction in Germany. This picture was taken with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone in October 2020. I gave it a second post processing treatment in Photoshop to bring some more brightness in the castle and contrast in the woods surrounding the castle.

St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII to defend the eastern side of the Fal estuary.. built in a trefoil shape as curved walls were thought to be a better defence from cannon fire. It still stands in pretty good condition. HWW!

Hornby Castle in North Lancashire is now more of a country house that was developed from a medieval castle. The Grade I-listed building overlooks the village of Hornby in the Lune Valley in the north of the county.

The castle originally dates from the 13th century but virtually nothing from that period is now left. The polygonal tower dates from the 16th century.

During the English Civil War the castle was captured and subsequently occupied in 1648 by the Duke of Hamilton and his Scottish army. The castle then changed hands a number of times over the subsequent years. Much of the structure was rebuilt between 1847 and 1850, though the older parts, including the polygonal tower, were retained. Further additions and alterations were made later in the 19th century.

The Castle of Grinzane Cavour (province of Cuneo town, Italy) has an uncertain origin: it is thought that the large central tower, the original core of the castle, dates back to 1350, while the remaining buildings are from a later period.

The Castle was the residence, for about twenty years (from 1830 to 1849) of Camillo Benso Count of Cavour (famous Italian statesman) who was also mayor of the small town.

The Castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014: it is in an excellent state of conservation, can be visited by the public and has an excellent panoramic position on the Langhe hills.

Caisteal Tioram, meaning "dry castle" is a ruined castle that sits on the tidal island Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, Lochaber. It is also known to the locals as "Dorlin Castle"

The Castle of Xàtiva is a double fortress located in the Sierra Vernisa above the city of Xàtiva.

This fortification has its origins in an Iberian construction that took advantage of one of the highest parts of the mountain at this point (Minor Castle). The Romans, later, when conquering it, added a second fortress to the other high point that the mountain presented that communicated with the previous one (Castillo Mayor). Both were reformed by the Arabs, who also widened the wall, until it practically coincided with the one currently known. Later, with greater or lesser reforms, these walls and the castle faced the conquest of Jaime I, the rebellion of the Germanías and the War of Succession, but the base of the architectural complex was this.

Krzyżtopór castle seen from the area of the former castle gardens :)

Krzyżtopór is a castle located in the village of Ujazd, Iwaniska commune, Opatów County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It was originally built in years 1621-1644 by a Polish nobleman and Voivode of Sandomierz, Krzysztof Ossoliński. It was one of the largest palace buildings in Europe before the construction of Versailles. The castle was partially destroyed during the Swedish invasion known as The Deluge in 1655, and then reduced to ruins during the war of the Bar Confederation by the Russians in 1770. Now the ruins of this castle is open to visitors.

A walk near Amerongen

Amerongen Castle (Dutch: Kasteel Amerongen) was built between 1674 and 1680, on the site of a medieval castle that had been burned down by the French in 1673. The gardens still contain historic elements such as a conservatory dating from the 1890s. In 1918, the former German Kaiser Wilhelm II signed his abdication here and stayed till 1920, when he moved to Huis Doorn.

History

The current building was designed by the architect Maurits Post as a baroque palace for the owners Godard Adriaan van Reede and his wife Margaretha Turnor. In the main hall a central staircase with painted ceiling was built by Willem van Nimwegen. Other ornaments were added in the early 20th century by P.J.H. Cuypers. The gardens contain historical elements and the walls predate 1673. Near the entrance bridge dating from 1678 is a wooden clock tower from 1728 that contains the original clock of the same date. In the north-east corner of the gardens is an orangerie dating from the 1880s, and the north wall was raised during the period when Wilhelm II was residing there 1918-1920. He abdicated in Amerongen

From 2002-2011 the castle was restored as a partnership between the Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed and various funds in the cultural heritage sector.

The castle functions today as a museum and is popen from 11 to 5 PM from Thursday to Sunday.
