In 1878–79, the casino building was transformed and expanded to designs of Jules Dutrou (1819–1885) and Charles Garnier, the architect who had designed the Paris opera house now known as the Palais Garnier.

Another shot of Lille at blue hour, in the Business District, the most difficult part here was to get the traffic lights on in one shot, and without too much car lights in front of me... it was a matter of timing and luck !

Brisbane's Treasury Casino Building is always illuminated at night. These lights were moving, changing aspect all the time.
Tis shot was taken while waiting to cross the road - hand held (I'd packed my tripod away).
As we were having supper (at a tasty fish restaurant) on the first night a large flock of birds passed over the Casino. Our speculation was that they were going to greet the returning fishermen.
After dinner we headed over to the Casino to spend our evening watching (we thought) other people lose money. On recovering from the shock that it was, in fact, a very beautiful movie theatre, we made a snap decision to see a film. Which was? "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Which proved, thankfully, to be rather funny.
Had we been visiting Catalina in the 30s and 40s our choice might have been a bit less prosaic. During its glorious heyday, when Catalina was the destination of the rich and famous (Marilyn Monroe lived and babysat in the town) everyone, including Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and Woody Herman, played at the Casino.

The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada opened publicly on June 10, 2004. This $1 billion complex with a belle époque theme overlooks the Horseshoe Falls and is one of the grandest and most expensive destinations on the Niagara skyline.
The site was once the transformer station building for the Ontario Power Company station at the foot of Horseshoe Falls. The east facade of the complex retains the walls of the terrace and front entrance of the transformer station built in 1904. The area where the transformers resided is now the Grand Hall Convention halls.
At the main entrance is a water feature called 'The Teslatron' with a transformer like fixture. A light, water and sound show brings the fountain alive for five minutes. At street level there is a fountain that varies its height with the wind so as not to wet pedestrians and passing cars.
The casino has a 35-floor 374-room hotel rising from above the casino complex.

Une désuétude accablante qui m'aura touché en plein cœur !
Tout semble avoir été déshérité aussi ici. (Il faudrait réaliser une série spéciale sur tous ces centres de cure laissés pour compte en France). Aujourd'hui le sombre éclat d'un passé qui fut à l'évidence lumineux.
Nous assistons ainsi à la fin d'un temps.
Alors qu'en d’autres lieux dorénavant plus stratégiquement touristiques refleurissent des centres de cure ultra modernes (et tellement froids architecturalement) de balnéothérapies et autres succédanés thérapeutiques à la chaîne ...
se meurent certaines stations intimes et historiques :
des thermes à leur terme à ce jour ...
Entraînés dans la chute : casino, hôtels rococo, kiosque à musique ...
Car tourisme et cure toujours vont de pair !
Se confinent alors à Lamalou les bains, dans ses rues, dans certains bars figés depuis les années 70 ... des populations incroyables d' handicapés semblant désargentés, comme la ville, que je n'ai pas osé "saisir" !
Mais que de portraits d'humanités envisageables mais cassées !
Vraiment il m'a semblé être à l'arrière d'un front, comme à Verdun, dans ses plus tristes et dramatiques moments.
Je n'oublierais jamais.
