Johnny Cash, Wichita, 1996.

I first heard Johnny Cash on my grandma's Dansette in the 1960's. She like Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves and watching Westerns in black and white on her TV.

I met Johnny and June Cash in 1996, when I photographed them for Mojo magazine. It was a job at short notice, with a short deadline and I did a ten thousand mile round trip to shoot that picture. JC was set to perform at a mall in Wichita. He was going to be performing classics like "Boy Named Sue" but he was also trying out material from the second American Recordings album.

I went with him and June in his modest little camper tour bus and as we got near to the venue, all the roads were solid with traffic and the state troopers had to clear the roads for him to get to the gig. He was a tired and quite frail figure, quiet and in pain. June was delightful and really cared for him.

I couldn't imagine what to expect of his performance but I needn't have worried, he absolutely came alive for the show one hundred percent. It was like a switch going on. I'll never forget ti.

The antique cash register that still goes 'tring'! The inner room we saw in previous photos is actually the one behind this antique cash till. It is used when customers buy bottles of wine, displayed beside it. Love the old world atmosphere! (Montreal, Canada, Dec. 2012)

Entrance to the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne is free, apart from special exhibitions. Donations are welcomed.

I was having lunch at Darla's on Irving when I noticed this area of tables that had been repurposed for storing a bunch of stuff for the restaurant. Upon closer look, I saw a pile of cash under the box of 4oz. MINI KITTY & PUPPY, and another pile of cash wrapped in a piece of paper just behind it.

I interrupt my ongoing tour of our Hawaiian vacation for this local shot taken at the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge. I ran it through the new HDR plug in to Snapseed and then shifted the white balance into the warmer tones to get rid of those Winter blues and grays. I think it's one of the best results I've had from the iPhone so far.

We're off in Denver Colorado right now visiting my daughter Sarah for Christmas. So I'll upload some iPhone shots until I return to my normal desktop for more shots from Hawaii.

Well, I ask the question only because I couldn't, honestly, say when I last had cash, either coins or paper money, in my pocket or wallet!!

Nowadays, everywhere I shop, have a coffee or a meal accept cashless payments via my bank or credit card or my digital wallet.

$5,000 ringgit. Probably the only time I'll ever have that much cash in my hand.

For whatever reason people in Malaysia still seem to deal with large sums in cash. I guess its to do with the fact that much day-to-day business is still done using cash (no hawker accepts credit card), and also the old school mentality that the safest place for your money is under your bed. ;)

A nice crisp NZ $20.
