Well, as some of you might have guessed, I went in vacations and had some great time there ! I went in the South West of France, near Spain, where I could see amazing landscapes, obviously I took the opportunity to visit some stables because even on vacation, we need to see horses ! During my journey, I visited a Mediterranean stable, it was really fancy, all the horses were so pretty but when I saw this gorgeous mare, I immediately fell in love with her.. Can you understand why ?!

Zwischen Lavafeldern und verlassenen Wein- und Obstgärten finden sich entlang der Circumetnea auch immer wieder die Ruinen alter Gutshöfe, Scheunen und Lagerschuppen, die - wenn nicht bereits wieder von der Vegetation zurückerobert oder als Müllkippe missbraucht - aus ihrem Inneren den ein oder anderen interessanten Blickwinkel auf die Bahn erlauben.
Nur wenige Meter vom letzten Foto meiner FCE-Serie entfernt bietet sich durch einen längst seiner Funktion beraubten Türrahmen diese Aussicht auf den nachmittäglichen Zug 26 (Riposto - Randazzo) und die Weinberge (Tipp für Freunde schwerer Rotweine: Der vorzügliche Nerello Mascalese "O’scuru o’ scuru" der Kooperative Al Cantàra von 2016!) bis hin nach Castiglione di Sicilia.
Dessen sehenswerter Ortskern thront oberhalb der Alcantara-Schlucht auf einem Bergsporn und ist leider heute - anders als die Fraktion Solicchiata, deren Bahnhof der Triebwagen vor wenigen Minuten verlassen hat - nicht mehr per Bahn erreichbar. Der betreffende, aufwendig trassierte Abschnitt der Circumetnea wurde schon 1961 stillgelegt und ab Linguaglossa durch eine erheblich kürzere Variante ersetzt. 1994 folgte schließlich auch die Einstellung des regulären Personenverkehrs auf der Regelspurstrecke Alcantara - Randazzo, die Castiglione ebenfalls bediente. Letztere blickt möglicherweise aber einer Renaissance im Ausflugsverkehr entgegen, wobei derartige Pläne gerade in Süditalien mit einer gehörigen Portion Skepsis zu genießen sind, obgleich auf Basis eines entsprechenden Gesetzes zur Förderung und Wiederbelebung des touristischen Bahnverkehrs in den letzten Jahren doch teils beachtliche Leistungen erbracht wurden...

Chámanlle así, Cántara da Moura, a un penedo erosionado e acovado que hai no río Corzos, afluente do Xares, ao seu paso polo lugar e parroquia do mesmo nome, concello de A Veiga (Ourense). A auga do río entra na cova e sae por unha porta feita polos mouros formando un breve cadoiro.
Trátase dunha cova na que se di vivía a Moura. De cando en cando víase no exterior, peiteando os seus louros cabelos cun peite de ouro. Cando pasaban por cabo dela as mozas que andaban coa facenda por aquel lugar, deixaba caer o peite ao chan. Se a moza que pasaba recollía o peite era premiada con ouro; se non o facía, quedaba alí petrificada.

Unlike european cuckoos (common cuckoos etc.), the guira cuckoo does not practice brood parasitism: it does not lay its eggs in the nest of other individuals.
Contrairement au coucous d'Europe (coucou gris...), le guira cantara ne pratique pas de parasitisme de ponte : il ne pond pas ses oeufs dans le nid d'autres individus.

A year after the Union Pacific acquisition of Southern Pacific, a westbound Shasta Route manifest enters Sawmill Curve near Mott siding on the Black Butte Subdivision. As the train passes through Siskiyou County in Northern California, it is a mixture of common and unique.
The Cotton Belt GP60 on the point likely has a bright future in the UP world. The same can't be said for the trio of tunnel motors next out, one of which is still sporting the "Kodachrome" paint scheme from the failed SPSF merger a decade earlier. Prime lumber drag power since the first T-2s were delivered in the 1970s, these EMDs will be shoved aside in a few years when UP begins to receive massive amounts of new SD70Ms.
The GP15 and GP38 are very rare birds on this former SP line. Presumably, they are a local power set going to Roseville for service. A few years earlier, if a westbound was ferrying local power to Roseville, the locomotives would have been Espee's hallowed SD9s. When this slide was exposed in September 1997, just two ex-SP SD9s were still active on UP.
The final notables in sight are the SP hi-cube boxcars at the head end of the train. Built at Gunderson in Portland a year earlier, these boxes were part of the last order of freight cars delivered to SP.
This vantage is just next to the frontage road along I-5 between Mott and Dunsmuir. Although we're less than four miles from the Dunsmuir depot where this train's crew will change, their train has to double back around Cantara Loop and cover over twice as much distance to get there.

I loved the mix of paint schemes and locomotive classes in the Santa Fe consists from this era. A C44-9W, C40-9W, SD40-2(?), and SD75M are in charge of an eastbound TOFC train at Cantera, NM, MP 687, on the Clovis Subdivision.

This is my 5th upload from our trip to Paris last weekend.
This is the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, which to me looks better from behind due to the enormous air arches.
The cathedral and it's peculiar creatures sitting on top ( more about that later, hehehe ) became also known by the Disney movie 'The hunchback of the Notre-Dame'.

Barcelos Rooster - One day, a Galician appeared who became a suspect. The authorities decided to arrest him and despite his oaths of innocence, no one believed that the Galician was heading to Santiago de Compostela in fulfillment of a promise, and that he was a fervent devotee of Santiago, Saint Paul and Our Lady. For this reason, he was sentenced to hang. Before being hanged, he asked to be taken to the judge who had sentenced him. Once permission was granted, they took him to the magistrate's residence, who was at that moment having a banquet with some friends. The Galician once again asserted his innocence and, to the incredulity of those present, pointed to a roast rooster that was on the table, exclaiming: "It is as certain that I am innocent as it is certain that this rooster will crow when they hang me." Laughter and comments were not long in coming, but just in case, no one touched the rooster.
What seemed impossible, however, became reality! When the pilgrim was being hanged, the roast rooster stood up on the table and crowed. No one doubted the condemned man's claims of innocence. The judge ran to the gallows and saw, with astonishment, the poor man with a rope around his neck. However, the loose noose prevented him from being strangled. He was immediately released and sent away in peace. A few years later, he returned to Barcelos and had a monument erected in honor of Santiago and the Virgin.
(Galo de Barcelos - Um dia, apareceu um galego que se tornou suspeito. As autoridades decidiram prendê-lo e, apesar de seus juramentos de inocência, ninguém acreditou que o galego estava indo para Santiago de Compostela em cumprimento de uma promessa, e que era um fervoroso devoto de Santiago, São Paulo e Nossa Senhora. Por isso, foi condenado à forca. Antes de ser enforcado, pediu para ser levado ao juiz que o havia condenado. Uma vez concedida a permissão, o levaram para a residência do magistrado, que naquele momento estava tendo um banquete com alguns amigos. O galego mais uma vez afirmou sua inocência e, para incredulidade dos presentes, apontou para um galo assado que estava na mesa, exclamando: "É tão certo que eu sou inocente quanto é certo que este galo cantará quando me enforcarem." Risos e comentários não demoraram a chegar, mas, por precaução, ninguém tocou no galo.
O que parecia impossível, no entanto, tornou-se realidade! Quando o peregrino estava sendo enforcado, o galo assado levantou-se sobre a mesa e cantou. Ninguém duvidou das alegações de inocência do condenado. O juiz correu para a forca e viu, com espanto, o pobre homem com uma corda em volta do pescoço. No entanto, o laço frouxo impediu que ele fosse estrangulado. Ele foi imediatamente solto e enviado em paz. Poucos anos depois, ele retornou a Barcelos e mandou erguer um monumento em homenagem a Santiago e à Virgem).

For a relatively brief period after Union Pacific acquired Southern Pacific, UP's ubiquitous SD40-2s augmented the tired fleet of SP power used to move trains up and down the west coast. Here, two of the EMD motors work a Z train down the Sacramento River Canyon in Spring 1998. They are spliced by a rare (for the Shasta Route, anyway) Chicago & North Western General Electric C40-8 at Delta, California.
Since it rounded Cantara Loop near Dunsmuir, this train has been curving along the Sacramento on Espee's 19th-century alignment. A major change is a few hundred yards ahead. Around the curve that the lead unit is negotiating, the line change for the Shasta Dam project begins. From here to Redding, the train will enjoy the luxury of a new, much better engineered grade opened in 1942.
The massive concrete arch bridge in the background was built in 1926-27 to span Dog Creek as part of US 99, the original Pacific Highway. It is now known as the Harlan D. Miller Memorial Bridge, a tribute to its designer. Miller was the State Bridge Engineer for California at the time of his death in 1926. This structure is now a historic landmark.
Guira cuckoo
The guira cuckoo (Guira guira) is a social, non-parasitic cuckoo found widely in open and semi-open habitats of eastern and southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and north-eastern Argentina. It is monotypic within the genus Guira, and is related to the anis.
It has whitish-buff underparts and rump, dark brownish upperparts, a broadly white-tipped dark tail that is relatively long, an orange-rufous crest, bare yellow ocular-skin (commonly fades in captivity), and a relatively heavy, orange-yellow bill. It is generally rather shaggy-looking and has a total length of approximately 34 cm (13 in). Like other members of the subfamily Crotophaginae, the guira cuckoo gives off a strong, pungent odour.

Guira cantara
Le Guira cantara ou Guira (Guira guira) est une espèce d'oiseaux de la famille des cuculidés proche parents des anis.
Il porte une huppe hirsute et orangée sur la tête. Il mesure environ 40 cm.
C'est un des oiseaux les plus communs au Brésil, absent seulement des forêts continues d'Amazonie.
Le guira cantara se déplace fréquemment au sol en bandes de 6 à 18 individus, en compagnie d'autres oiseaux tel le moqueur plombé (Mimus saturninus) et l'ani à bec lisse (Crotophaga ani) dont le comportement est très voisin.

It opened in 1971 and was the first zoo in the world where monkeys could walk around freely in the forest and between the visitors.
