Years ago, a friend told me a story from her childhood that I'd not heard before, and I think of it often. The story goes like this:
One morning, a little girl was looking across the valley from her house, admiring the beautiful golden windows on a house on the top of the hill.
"Mom," she said, "Do you see that house on the hill with golden windows? It must be so beautiful there, and the people who live there must be so wealthy! I'll bet they have no problems and their lives are filled with happiness every day. I wish OUR HOUSE had golden windows."
"Oh, darling," replied the mother, "no one's life is perfect. Even people who live in a house with golden windows."
"No, I think you are wrong! I want to go see for myself!" So the mother packed the daughter a lunch, and away the daughter went to cross the valley and see how wonderful life was for the people who lived in the house with golden windows.
The girl walked all day long. As she reached the bottom of the valley, she lost sight of the house but kept going. It was dusk by the time she reached the top of the other hill. But to her surprise, all she found was an ordinary house. She saw no golden ornaments, nothing that made the house look different or more special than any other house. The people looked ordinary, just like the people in her own family. She was puzzled.
Disappointed, she turned around to gaze at her own house across the valley she'd just crossed. And to her surprise, her house was ablaze with light. The windows shone with gold as the setting sun lit them up. In disbelief, she looked again at the ordinary house in front of her, then back to her house gleaming across the way.
"MY house has golden windows!" she said in amazement. She stood for a moment, struck by how beautiful her house looked from this side of the valley. She took off running back down the hill, eager to return to her family.
Canning Dock is a dock, on the River Mersey, England and part of the Port of Liverpool. It is situated in the southern dock system, connected to Salthouse Dock to the south and Canning Half Tide Dock to the west. The Canning Graving Docks are accessed from the dock.
The dock was opened in 1737 as a protected tidal basin providing an entrance to Old Dock. Having been subsequently enclosed as a wet dock three years earlier, in 1832 it was officially named after the Liverpool MP, George Canning. To the east is the site of Old Dock, built in 1709, this was the world first enclosed dock. Canning Dock would have initially served ships involved in the trans Atlantic slave trade.
Access to the northern half of the dock system was via Georges Dock, George's Basin and into Princes Dock. In 1899, both Georges Basin and George's Dock were filled in and the site is now the Pier Head.
Along with the Albert Dock and others in the immediate vicinity, Canning Dock was abandoned as a commercial shipping facility in 1972 due to the rising cost of dredging and falling numbers in traffic. It was restored in the 1980s and provides access to the Canning Graving Docks, which are part of the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
By March 2009 work was completed on a £22 million extension of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, providing a further 1.4 miles of navigable waterway.
From Princes Dock, the extension passes the Pier Head and terminates at Canning Dock. The extension includes a small basin at Mann Island, in the vicinity of the Pier Head, and a new lock providing access to Canning Dock.

I went out for a bit of a walk today and stopped and took this photo just up the road.
Yes, I know that the subject should not be in the middle but, I am tossing the rules out when it comes to my photography. We are following enough rules right now and have been since March of 2020 when it comes to staying home, wearing face masks etc. and I figure that the one thing that has kept me sane since we retired (at least up till March I was seeing others outside of our home when we went to work four days as week) was my photography. So, I have decided, I am going to not follow the rules when it comes to photography.
There is light in sight though and GP and I are slated to get our 2nd "jab" tomorrow afternoon as our Health Unit is having a "pop up clinic" so we can hopefully start to see our children and grandchildren real soon!
Canon EOS 5D Mark II Canon EF 24-70 f2.8L aperture priority at f6.3 ISO 200 SOC no edits at all other than resizing for the web in ON1 Photo Raw 2021. At f6.3 on this lens you still get some nice bokeh.
Can you find my house??? I'm not too far from the airport ;-) Okaloosa Island is the strip of sand to the right.

The spangled drongo (Dicrurus bracteatus) is a bird of the family Dicruridae. it is the only drongo to be found in Australia where it can be recognised by its black, iridescent plumage and by its characteristic forked tail. It feeds on insects and small vertebrates. It has complex and varied calls and is a mimic of the sounds it hears. It arrives in Queensland in late spring and breeds high in an isolated tree, producing three to five young each year. Its basically black plumage is iridescent with blue and purple highlights. Its eyes are crimson. The most remarkable characteristic of its appearance is its tail, which is described by Morcombe as "long, outcurved and forked" and on first examination looks like its feathers are crossed over - like crossing your fingers. Young drongos lack the highlights and spots and their eyes are dark brown
The spangled drongo displays uninhibited and sometimes comical behaviour as it swoops and perches in search of insects, small birds and occasionally, small skinks. When it - seasonally - visits urban areas it is easily tamed by throwing small pieces of raw meat into the air, when it will accurately swoop and catch them mid-air.
Whilst this bird is often silent, it sometimes makes astonishingly loud, complex and entertaining calls that may sound like a "sneeze". The spangled drongo is an amazing mimic taking most of its vocabulary from the sounds heard in the vicinity and weaving them into a virtuoso aria.
The spangled drongo is the only drongo to be found in Australia. These birds are altitudinal and latitudinal migrants, and in the high altitude areas around Brisbane in Queensland, they arrive in late spring and leave with their new crop of juveniles in mid-summer. Nests are cup shaped in open spaces, where it is difficult for predators to access without being seen, 75% up the canopy. Each year, they produce 3-5 young.
Trivia
The unsuccessful racehorse Drongo was named after the bird and led to the Australian slang insult "drongo" meaning "idiot".
My Grandpa worked at Pabst. I never got to meet him. If I had, I'd toss a few of these bad boys back with him. Instead, I sat on my porch last night and tossed a few back alone.

There’s a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of a rolling wind can be turned away
An enchanted moment, and it sees me through
It’s enough for this restless warrior just to be with you
And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It’s enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it’s laid to rest
It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best
There’s a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There’s a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours
I heard about it happening
I never thought it could be
The way he looked into my eyes
What he doin' to me
He caught me by surprise
He opened up my life
He wasn't like them other dudes
I wanna be his wife
He said he got played
I told him don't be scared
My mission make you mine
Forget the rest
They ain't prepared
He said he liked my style
I said I liked his lips
He took my hand
And then he told me this:
Well all my love I give it to you girl, my life I'll live it with you girl
Worth more to me than a diamond and a pearl
Have you ever met a dude
You can't get out your mind
You go to sleep
He in your dreams
He with you all the time
This was the way it was
Thought it was meant to be
Till I picked up the phone one night
and it was Tiffany
She said he was her dude
I said is that a fact
She said I let him go and play
But he always come back
I said that can't be true
She said it always is
I hung up, heart stuck
I cant believe this $h*t
