Apollo 11 Astronaut and one of the first people to walk on the Moon

Buzz Aldrin grew up in Montclair, New Jersey. His mother, Marion Moon, was the daughter of an Army Chaplain and his father Edwin Eugene Aldrin was an aviation pioneer. Buzz graduated one year early from Montclair High School and he attended the US Military Academy at West Point, graduating third in his class with a BS in mechanical engineering. He then joined the Air Force where he flew F86 Sabre Jets in 66 combat missions in Korea, shot down two MIG-15′s, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. After a tour of duty in Germany flying F100′s, he earned his Doctorate of Science in Astronautics at MIT and wrote his thesis on Manned Orbital Rendezvous. Selected by NASA in 1963 into the third group of astronauts, Aldrin was the first with a doctorate and became known as “Dr. Rendezvous.” The docking and rendezvous techniques he devised for spacecraft in Earth and lunar orbit became critical to the success of the Gemini and Apollo programs, and are still used today. He pioneered underwater training techniques to simulate spacewalking. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world’s first successful spacewalk - extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and set a new EVA record of 5 1⁄2 hours. During that mission he also took the first ‘selfie’ in space. On July 20, 1969, Buzz and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world. An estimated 600 million people - at that time, the world's largest television audience in history - witnessed this unprecedented heroic endeavor. Upon returning from the moon, Buzz was decorated with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and numerous awards all over the world. Named after Buzz are Asteroid "6470 Aldrin" and the "Aldrin Crater" on the moon. In 2011 along with his Apollo 11 crewmates Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins, he received the Congressional Gold Medal. Buzz is the author of 9 books, most recently his children’s book, Welcome to Mars: Making a Home on the Red Planet and his newest NY Times and Washington Post Bestseller, “No Dream Is Too High: Life Lessons from a Man Who Walked on the Moon”. Both published by National Geographic. In October of 2014 he revamped his ShareSpace Foundation to be focused on STEAM Education - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math to ignite the spark and fuel excitement for space in kids –Specifically for K-8. In August of 2015 he launched the Buzz Aldrin Space Institute at Florida Tech to promote and develop his vision of a permanent human settlement on the planet Mars. Since retiring from NASA and the U.S. Air Force, Col. Aldrin calls himself a Global Statesman for Space and has remained a tireless advocate for human space exploration.

Buzz and Woody done free-hand and painted on fondant by my daughter.

I asked Nadia to help with the painting since she always moan 'nothing to do' ... she will start her A levels only next week.

I set out the painting station with coloured pictures of Buzz & Woody, white fondant cut-outs of the two, Wilton and Americolor colour paste and color sheen, paint brushes, Americolor Gourmet Writer, kitchen towel and etc.

I also left a written instructon of which color to go where, what to do etc ...

(I am not fussy ... I just have eyes for details hehehhe)

When I was at the office she smsed "Ma, Buzz is hard to do".

So I called and guide over the phone.

2 hours later she MMSed with the first finished Woody, Buzz an hour later.

I thought these were superb considering ths is her first effort to paint on fondant.

I shall miss her help in the kitchen when she goes to college next week.

This is the 15.10 Fleet Buzz route 72 working from Reading to Fleet - although you can't tell just by looking! Stagecoach in Hampshire Olympian 16588, completely bereft of any route or destination information, loads at Market Place, Reading, on Tuesday 7th May.

Apparently the vehicle has been loaned to Fleet Buzz for a trail period, as following the timetable changes of 14th April some route 72 journeys on schooldays now require additional capacity. It is thought to be the first double decker that has worked along the route for some years.

This is the right size for a Buzz Droid.

The official one is too big.

Hydrangea buzzing with bumble bees in Wave Hill, July 5, 2015. This whole hydrangea bush had a life of its own there were so many bees in it - must have been over a hundred bees on one shrub.

Buzz was one my top five most wanted figures when I heard about the line and I was stoked to finally get him. There's something so classic about the character design even if he is just giant bee.

After my sungei buloh trip , i decided to drop by jurong point for my dinner.

To my surprise, i discovered that there is a park built opposite it , which shows how "often" I travel to the west side of Singapore.

The park was buzzing with activities. The catch of the day was parrot owners were putting their parrot on the tree logs.

I also saw this malay family flying this huge kite that is at least 1m in size as seen in this picture.

About Jurong Central Park

.:Taken from www.nparks.gov.sg :.

Jurong Central Park is a new 8-ha regional park in the Jurong West area and is the first in Singapore to have life-sized board-game features in a park. Situated across the Boon Lay MRT Station, the park is accessible via the Jurong and Jurong West Park Connectors. The park is also located next to the upcoming new Safra clubhouse in Jurong West.

The life-sized Snakes and Ladders playground and Ludo Garden were developed based on the traditional indoor children's board-games enjoyed by many internationally. Visitors can now enjoy the games outdoors using the dice tower built in the park for game play. The life-sized games were developed to add a new dimension to the play experience using greenery, sculpted terrains and various play equipment to fulfil diverse aspirations for play in Singapore.

The plants and trees selected for planting at the Snakes and Ladders playground include lush foliage such as the Calathea lutea and Raphis excelsa. When mature, the trees will provide visitors with the experience of playing in a jungle setting. Colourful plants were also selected for planting in the Ludo Garden, to complement the Ludo game which uses bright colours for different playing teams.

Various types of aquatic plants can be found in the wetland to complement the existing plants at site to bring visitors closer to nature. The park was designed to retain its existing wetland as a habitat for wildlife species and dragonflies. Two species of dragonfly have been spotted at the wetland - Crocothemis servilia (Red Darter) and Potamarcha congener (Orange-streaked Dragonfly). The bright colours of the dragonflies add a beautiful contrast to the green vegetation background of the wetland. Yellow bitterns and pacific swallows have also been spotted. As the wetland becomes more established over time, it will serve as a habitat to a greater number of wildlife species and continue to help bring nature back to the urban environment.

Apart from the games and wetland, Jurong Central Park also sports an event lawn, a 2km cycling and jogging track, fitness corner, benches, and shelters for visitors.

Yesterday my Pal Justin Korn posted a simple query to Google Buzz asking people to post to his Buzz if they were a photopgraher and on Buzz and so far over 100 different photographers have posted to his thread. It seems like photographers are flocking to Google's latest social network and for good reason. Here's another view of many of these photographers from Justin's blog.

Buzz displays your photos much more elegantly than they do on Flickr. As you upload your photos to Flickr, or Google's Picasa (where I've started getting more active myself), your photos are imported into Buzz as a stream of nice looking large sized thumbnail images. But here's where it gets better. Click on an image and Buzz loads up the image's full large size, in all it's glory. I don't know about you, but I love looking at images really big *much* more than I enjoy looking at the medium sized 500 px default that Flickr shows. Rather than have to leave the page that I'm on (like on Flickr to see an image big) I can instead just advance through the images with the keyboard one by one.

Each image includes a link back to flickr/picasa where if I want to I can click on the link and it will open that image in a new tab on my browser to go fave or comment on or do whatever I want on flickr/picasa.

While you are on Buzz you can "like" a photographers import, or comment on it, or whatever. I'm finding that Buzz is every bit as social as a site like Flickr is for photographers and am having some really great conversations about my own work.

Are you a photographer and on Buzz? Then definitely post your info to Justin's thread above. Are you a photographer and not on Buzz yet? What are you waiting for, come on over, the water's nice. It's another great place to showcase your work. Even if you don't have the time or inclination to spend time socially interacting on Buzz, you still might want to at least link it up to your Flickrstream so that people that want to follow your work on Buzz still can.

If you'd like to follow my stuff on Buzz you can find me here. I'm going to be very active on Buzz in the days and weeks ahead.
