I had so much fun designing this bag! Aside from Amy's fabrics I was inspired by a strong desire for spring to be here NOW.
I used my own ruler free tote pattern (aka the one where I just start cutting and see what happens) and combined a gorgeous black floral by Ms Butler with a pretty lilac and white polka dot cotton. The flowers appliqued to the front of the bag are from the scraps of another Amy Butler fabric that I used to make a skirt. I used a fusible iron on transfer paper to make sure they would stay in place, then hand stitched around the edges with pink cotton thread for extra security. There are also four pretty blue cherry blossoms created by the same appliqued process that I made by cutting out some of the little blue and black rectangles that were on the fabric with the flowers. The lining is a black cotton with grey and green polka dots and there are two nifty inside pockets. All of the stitching on this bag was done in the pink cotton thread
15" wide x 17" tall with two 23" straps.
Butler's Landing is the english seaside town where Maggie Butler holidayed in my little stories.
Now there are some short stories planned, I thought maybe it could be built in a small scale. These are in progress shots.

The impressive parish church at Knowle is dedicated to Saints John the Baptist, Laurence and Anne; it is a good example of a Perpendicular Midland church, and is profusely adorned on the south side with battlements, pinnacles and gargoyles.
It is also built using two different coloured local sandstones, red and white, a feature of several Warwickshire churches that adds greatly to their appeal.
Inside the church is spacious with then nave flanked by aisles and the chancel disappearing beyond the late medieval wooden screen. The chancel contains ancient stalls with ten misericords (mostly fairly plain designs) and a sedilia too high up to be used (owing to the lowering of the floor following the removal of a passageway that once ran beneath the altar).
There is an interesting mixture of stained glass from several studios of the Victorian and Arts & Crafts period, an extensive and varied collection with some particularly notable pieces that reward study.
The church is happily normally open and welcoming to visitors.

Although the story of guitarist/vocalist Jonathan Butler is one narrative, it tends to be told in two parts. His followers in North America where Butler is now based know that he is from South Africa but with little knowledge of his background. Those who appreciate his music locally know how he used his voice/guitar to escape the abject conditions around him. Although they know that he is big in the US, there is little knowledge of the many musical projects he involved in across the Atlantic. On the weekend of 02-03 April, Butler will appear at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with two guests, trumpeter Rick Braun and saxophonist Richard Elliot. Since 2005, the three have performed together as members of a band known as Jazz Attack. As individual artists, all three unquestionably belong to the premier smooth jazz league. Butler has won Grammy nominations twice for his African-brewed vocalising and guitar playing. Both Braun and Elliot are leading innovative smooth jazz artists. Having them in Cape Town will be an opportunity to see their skill and will help to square the Jonathan Butler story as local audiences will have first hand experience of what the vocalist/guitarist does in the US.

The day I brought the Claude Butler home in 1984 - my daughter Emma is perched upon the saddle. Most of the components were ditched just kept the frame. It was sanded back, repainted white with gold lettering, white leather saddle and white handlebar tape. Down shifters added and better wheels crankset etc. Was completely transformed..sadly no photo of that exists. I did love that Merino wool top. The old chamois cycle shorts took your breath away when pulling them on during the winter months.
I was dreaming of owning a Flying Scot back then and had heard through the grapevine Rattrays had sadly closed. My dream bike the Flying Scot was not to be realized till many decades later.
I turned around at one point and saw Blair Butler standing there. Ever since I started watching G4's "Attack of the Show!" she has become my new geek-chick hero (for her weekly "Fresh Ink" segment, and her coverage of comic and toy events). She was so cool, when I asked her if I could have a photo with her, she suggested holding the mic up like that, like she was interviewing me. :)

I really miss this shop, even though it's not that gourmet, but just the vision is enough for me to spend time with :X
