Bush Lake in Bloomington, MN is usually frozen at this time of the year, a nice recent sunset reflecting in the open water.

Bush Cicadas are also known as Grand Western Cicadas. Found in the Great Plains and the Southwest. The males call females with a loud buzzing drone that trails off and then starts up again. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

The bush chat is a small passerine bird found ranging from West Asia and Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. About sixteen subspecies are recognized through its wide range with many island forms. It is a familiar bird of countryside and open scrub or grassland where it is found perched at the top of short thorn trees or other shrubs, looking out for insect prey. They pick up insects mainly from the ground.

They nest in cavities in stone walls or in holes in an embankment, lining the nest with grass and animal hair. The males are black with white shoulder and vent patches whose extent varies among populations. Females are predominantly brownish while juveniles are speckled.

These birds like to congregate in small groups, on the ground. When alerted they will walk away very slowly, freeze in position, or just lay down on the ground. They will fly away only when really pressed. About knee height, when standing.

Our front porch view around 4:30pm. It is rare to have snow in North Alabama, especially in December. The snow stopped falling shortly after and has already started to melt away.

The texture of the Canadian bush in winter.

Poinsettia bushes (Euphorbia pulcherrima) grow in many yards and wild on hillsides throughout Hawai’i. Winter’s shortened days cause the poinsettia leaves to turn flaming red, indicating that Christmas is coming. The Hawaiian word for the poinsettia plant is Pua Kalikimaka, literally meaning, “Christmas flower.” The plant is also called “Christmas Star,” Zach Wood or noche buena. The latter name reveals that it is indigenous to Mexico and Central America. The plant was first introduced to the United States in 1825 by Joel Robert Poinsett. It is believed to have been brought to Hawai’i not long after. The plant thrives in Hawaii’s climate. This poinsettia bush was growing in a yard alone side the Kalea (South Point Road) on the Island of Hawai’i.

Painted Bush Quail (Perdicula erythrorhyncha) - Male is the most beautiful of the quails from the sub continent. This is indeed special and from the recent trip

It is Moss Season.

I found this adult Katydid (Tettigoniidae) in an leaf of a Wild Blackberry (Rubus ursinus, Rosaceae) in the woods today. It's a female with a visible ovipositor that you can see at the end of her abdomen about midway along her wings. I believe this is one of the Bush Katydids in the genus Scudderia - probably the Mexican Bush Katydid (Scudderia mexicana)? The adults of seem to be much less common than the nymphs. I tried to incorporate both positive and negative painting into this piece. My colours were all put down wet on wet to begin with and then when dry, I went in and created my design lightly with pencil before actually painting the roses.
