Not a beer to be messed about with, this is a beer to be wary of.

At Calais Vin I picked up four random bottles, this being one, as I liked Bush Christmas beer, but did not notice the volume.

Pours very lively, though this was unchilled and taken from a wine rack, so had been lying down.

Very strong notes, and obviously, the alcohol content is obvious from the red-coloured beer.

The Bush Prestige is a Bush Caractère that, rather than maturing in stainless steel tanks, has spent six months finishing in oak barrels.

During the bottling process, small amounts of sugar and yeast are added to the beer so it re-ferments in the bottle during its stay in the brewery’s warm room. This develops the natural yeast cloud and gives the beer its exceptionally high alcohol volume of 13%.

Reviving the traditional use of oak barrels has introduced aromas and tannins that haven’t been experienced in beer for many years. Even the most demanding beer lover will be bowled over by these qualities. Think of the aromas of whisky and other spirits matured on oak coupled with an extraordinarily rounded character.

The Bush Prestige is an exceptional beer thanks to its rounded taste, its rich aromas, the exclusive bottle and the limited distribution.

The Bush Prestige is a beer with an outstandingly fruity aroma, with touches of red and black fruits such as blueberries.

The nose is also spicy (vanilla) and wood.

It tastes full in the mouth, is rounded, soft and exceptionally balanced.

The Bush Prestige is well-structured, with an alcohol content that is always present but never overpowering.

Of course, after a vacation, comes the chores.

Shopping. Picking up the cats. Washing.

But we are home.

And picking up the cats is very much a good thing.

There was lots of things we wanted to do, but the weather would have a say on that.

After coffee, Jools went to Lydden to collect the cats after she went swimming, leaving me at home, to put the last of stuff away and so we have a tidy house once more.

Yes, there has been change in weather since leaving Cannes, as you would expect.

Rain, and lots of it, with cold driving wind too. That began just before Jools came back with the cats, so I get soaked going out to help get them out of the car and releasing them back free once again.

They had been away 15 nights, which is about as long as they have been in a cattery, so once back, the meowed, all meowed, even Poppy, a lot.

They had been well fed and looked after, and yet they were demanding more of both. We gave them attention, but told them they would have to wait until four for tea.

Meow, they said.

And outside the rain hammered down, so we put the heating on after closing all windows.

In two days we have gone from being where it was too humid to sleep to now needing blankets.

I wrote and edited shots through the afternoon, and just before dinner, I got some amazing news, which if you want to know, you'll have to seek out my blog.

But this called called for a celebration, so got one of the beers I bought in Calais, 12.5%. I have had weaker wines!

In my defence I will says I didn't drink the whole bottle, and that might explain my poor performance in the music quiz.

I watched football, drank silly strong beer, and snacked.

A fine evening all round.

Prairie bush clover is a relict of the expansive tallgrass prairie which once covered the Upper Midwest. It is extremely unusual in that is one a very small number of plants (or any organisms for that matter) that is a true Midwestern endemic. It only lives in high quality tall grass prairies in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois which have not been plowed or degraded. As a result of row crops, overgrazing, and lack of management there is much less than 1% of this habitat remaining. This species is so uncommon that it is listed as federally threatened under the Endangered Species Act. In addition to its rarity, it is also extremely difficult to spot. The vast majority of the time it has cleistogamous or closed flowers and its slender foliage disappears amongst the tallgrass. I have searched for this species where other people have marked the individuals with pink flags and sometimes it still takes me over a minute to find them. This is the first time I have had the pleasure of seeing the "true" or chasmogamous flowers (open pink ones!)

Bush and Montgomery

A very common bush cricket found almost anywhere there is vegetation. Nymphs are seen April-July reaching maturity from July onwards. Adults are then seen through to November or even December. Eats both plant material and other invertebrates. Females have a strongly upwardly curved ovipositor adding up to 10mm to their body length.

I think we caught the end of this, but there were a few people protesting Bush's move to close by here.
