'Every sleepy light

Must say goodbye

To the day before it dies

In a sea of honey

A sky of honey

Keep us close to your heart

So if the skies stay dark

We may live on in

Comets and stars'

Poinsettia bushes (Euphorbia pulcherrima) grow in many yards and wild on hillsides throughout Hawai’i. Winter’s shortened days cause the poinsettia leaves to turn flaming red, indicating that Christmas is coming. The Hawaiian word for the poinsettia plant is Pua Kalikimaka, literally meaning, “Christmas flower.” The plant is also called “Christmas Star,” Zach Wood or noche buena. The latter name reveals that it is indigenous to Mexico and Central America. The plant was first introduced to the United States in 1825 by Joel Robert Poinsett. It is believed to have been brought to Hawai’i not long after. The plant thrives in Hawaii’s climate. This poinsettia bush was growing in a yard alone side the Kalea Road (South Point Road) on the Island of Hawai’i.

ODC: Where would we meet

This maybe not your usual meeting place, but w were recently shown this tiny bush cemetery, hidden away from the road and known only to a few locals. With just a few graves now visible, it provides a fascinating insight into lives past but not quite forgotten.

The Bush Stone-Curlew is a strange bird. It is mainly a ground dwelling bird which appears motionless most of the time or stone like. This bird looked up for a few seconds before returning to its statuesque pose.

I'm trying to pay more attention to wild flowers. This little plant is fairly widespread in most of the reserves I visit.

Vegetation is sparse in the rugged, desert like terrain of the region of Papagayo, Lanzarote. So. when I came across this lone spindly bush surrounded by a cluster of more dense undergrowth I decided it was worthy of a photograph!

Nothing beats find a new spot to shoot in the bush.... even if it does take a bit of bush bashing!
