Phoenix Bussing's Setra S431DT X4PBS is pictured on Fenkle Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, supporting Matt Goss at the O2 Academy, on December 6th 2016. The last time that I photographed X4PBS was in 2009 when the plates were on a Scania Irizar. It was previously registered BE11PBS.
I think over time, the standard school buses imported from the US - probably secondhand - get some local character added.

Many years ago, about eight if I had to guess, I collected this little Ford from it's former home in Cambridgshire, a journey which wasn't without incident. The previous keeper had given us an assurance it was ready to just drive away but on collection it was blocked in and with at least one flat tyre. When finally extracted and underway, the brakes were sticking on, the steering didn't want to go around one corner or another and shortly afterwards the clutch fluid drained away. The return journey up the A14 and M6 was an interesting one to say the least as it included the afternoon rush hour. When back at RBW and on the pit. we discovered the nut which secures the steering box drop arm to the power steering ram to be finger tight and backed off. The moral of the story is never to take someone elses word that a vehicle is ready to move!
Anyway, the little Supreme IV bodied Ford sat around for year after year awaiting a customer until very recently salvation came from the preservation movement. Following a good deal of resurrection work, the now rare 35 seater coach passed it's Class 5 MoT successfully last Friday ... and today the hand brake cable broke! When you've found where the gears are, and they're not always in the same place, It's great fun to drive and goes like stink!
