Buses at North Point Ferry Terminus

One of the most intensive bus routes in Australia is the City - Bondi Junction section which of course was once an important tram route. Here there is a convergence of buses outside the Darlinghurst Court House at Taylors Square one recent Saturday morning,

This 1997 New Flyer C40LF CNG bus was converted to hybrid natural gas by ISE Corp. for MTS, as a prototype for testing. Almost all hybrid buses utilize a gasoline or diesel-powered engine; this is one of the first with a natural gas-powered engine. (I think the Denver Mall buses are CNG-hybrid also.) The special art on the exterior was sponsored by North Island Credit Union and features scenes from San Diego County.

Where it had come from and why it was in Stafford I have no idea.

The double decker at the back of the group is one of the West Midlands shuttles from Stafford railway station to the V festival site at Weston Park.

Testing out the zoom on a new digital camera when Rog and I visited Bearwood Bus Station back in October 2005. This shot came out well enough considering its experimental nature - the photo shows the 447 route completing its journey from West Bromwich via Londonderry.

Strawberry Bus is are a small North West independent bus company operating out of a small unit in St Helens. Founded in 2009 by ex Blackpool Transport operations manager Oliver Howarth, the company started with one solitary and slightly bizarre route, Line 1, operating between Skelmersdale and Warrington. The route was launched to create links between important places such as hospitals and places of education, for passengers who previously had to take several buses to get to where they wanted.

Initially starting with several relatively new VDL low floor vehicles and a high floor replacement for times of trouble, the company soon ran into financial difficulty and had to sell off their newer vehicles in replacement of older dart varieties.

The company managed to get out of the small patch of trouble they were in and are now a moderately successful little company – operating a variety of routes across the north west (Generally on behalf of Merseytravel/TfGM) and a now varied fleet of buses, MG53 BLU, a dart MPD as pictured here as their main vehicles.

The oldest buses in the Reading Buses fleet are a batch of ten-year-old Scania OmniDekkas, most of which are still putting in yeoman service on South Reading routes 5 and 6. Not for much longer though, as new ADLEnviro400 MMCs are arriving for these routes, and these vehicles will be displaced.

Nos. 809 and 805 are seen in Station Road loading up for Northumberland Avenue (route 5) and Whitley Wood (route 6) respectively on Monday 13th April. There is speculation that some of these buses may not leave the fleet but may be transferred over to "The Green Bus" school contract, where their high seating capacity will come in useful.

Reading Buses' Whitley routes 5 and 6 are due for a makeover this Spring with the arrival of a further 16 ADL Enviro400 MMC, of which 14 will be in two-tone green livery (the other two will be in generic livery). These will displace the existing Scania Omnidekkas and Scania/Optare Olympus used on these routes and will lead to a number of older buses leaving the fleet.

Reading Buses has just placed a batch of six Alexander-Dennis Enviro400 Hybrid buses into service on route 26. At the same time the route has been rebranded, and now uses an eye-catching (even by Reading Buses' standards!) yellow and orange livery, in place of the rather insipid light pink previously worn. 201, the first of the batch, nears the end of its journey from Calcot as it sets down in West Street in the Town Centre on its first day in passenger service, Monday 13th December 2010.

Note that 201 carries the registration MRD1, which was originally on the Mayoral Limousine and has been used on a variety of Reading's buses in recent years.

It's an RF class AEC Regal IV (RF stands for Regal Four). The body is by Metro-Cammell. These buses were produced from 1951 to 1953. There were approximately 700 produced.

ledlon88 says:

It is RF 504, it was originaly red and was painted gold in late 2001 by it`s owner to celebrate the Queen`s gloden jubilee in 02. This particular bus was amongst the last of it`s type to run in public service with London transport in the Kingston (Surrey) area in March 1979. After sale from LT it went to an owner in Guernsey before returning to the mainland to be preserved. Hopefully it will be painted into it`s correct livery soon.
