I watched this Mockingbird harass this Hawk for several minutes before the Hawk finally left his perch. The Mockingbird is relentless whenever another bird gets on this pole. He is our resident bully!
Noisy backyard bully
I really enjoy having these beautiful birds in backyard in Chester County, PA, even though they are very noisy and often monopolize the feeder.

More drama at the pond today. This is an Egyptian Goose, an African native, but there are pockets of them living in the SoCal wild. In fact, they've been noted in Orange County (SoCal) as early as 1980. So, today at the pond, there is evidently a resident pair, and another pair showed up. They were NOT welcomed. Such aggression - honking, cackling, hissing, and that was just the vocal part. We saw one goose fly from across the pond right at the newcomer standing on the pond edge and bowl it over. There were a couple of drowning attempts; at one timely vantage point I had I could see an underwater chase even. (Who knew a goose could swim like a grebe?) Anyway, this is one of the bullies, on its way for more trouble. So you get the full impact here, the goose specs are 27" that's over 2 feet long, a wing span just under 5 feet, and weighing in at 4.25 lb (1928 g). Needless to say, viewer caution was the word of the day.
Wooley-Bully is 45 years old and weighs 275lbs. He only raised his head once....was a heavy sleeper.

The real world of wildlife is not always sweet and kind. This Bully Wood Stork is claiming his territory by clamping onto the neck of the smaller stork and lifting it out of the water. This went on for a few brief seconds with not apparent injury. This behavior was witnessed in the 10,000 Islands Sanctuary in SW Florida.
Out at the observatory at Rostherne yesterday. Sadly this little fella has got bumblefoot, a mite that eats under the skin and unfortunately usually fatal. Seen it in Chaffinches before but never in Bullfinches.
One of my furgrandchildren, Rhiannon, romping and playing in the snow last March. You can see how happy she was!! We were all in bliss actually :) The snow was falling pretty hard at this point!! Since we rarely have snow, I forgot my camera has a setting to take pictures in the snow...sigh.
