This monster of a waterfall cascade is the outflow from Swiftcurrent Lake into Shurbern Lake there in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park. I took several compositions here - both in BULB mode with the 9 & 6 Stop filters stacked, and also with the 9 Stop and CPL Stacked for some 2 second captures.

This post here is of the Bulb capture that is @ f14 for 3 minutes. Certainly a tough sun angle for the time of day we were there, but I liked the scene with the split between light and shadow, and I was able to expose this and not blow out the water there in the sunlight. With the clouds there, this 180 second capture turned out pretty cool I think.

This outfall from one lake to the other was quite the flow. The square looking boulders there are about the size of a small house, that helps provide some scale to the image. A beautiful spot ... if I return here someday, hope to stay nearby this section of the park so getting a sunrise at this location would be incredible I think.

Proyecto Teleidoscope: 05/52: Light/ Luz

Early April 2020, the first (soft) lockdown had just been put in place here in the Netherlands. I spent quite some early mornings (but also afternoons) chasing the light on these flower fields and I'd like to believe it helped me keep, or rather regain my sanity after what had been some taxing months, for varying reasons. And while I love the look of tulips, I do tend to get a little sad thinking about the amounts of pesticides are used during the process. Unfortunately, only few fields in the Netherlands grow these the organic way. So if you're planning on buying bulbs or flowers, it's worth asking for or looking for that 'bio' label!

WIT: I thought Basia's picture of the lampshade with the perspective of looking up into the shade was cool. This was shot from my floor lamp, with the energy-saving bulb. In post, just brightened the surrounding shade a bit, as when I shot the picture, I exposed for the light bulb. No crop in post.

Something I have wanted to do for ages. But I can pick umpteen holes in this. Trying to even get the right sort of bulb was not the easiest - most are LED or not dimmable. Then the bulb would have worked better rotated 180 degrees. Getting rid of dust was another nightmare. So don't look closely ..Lol! So I think I will have another try at this sometime in future.

A Macro Mondays project for Monday, April 11, 2022.

Happy Macro Mondays folks!

I didn’t expect to take these pictures. I just knew that the bulb that blew in the lamp that I keep on my office desk made a lovely white blast pattern on the glass and that I wanted to shoot it, but I didn’t expect this play of color and light when I did.

The results surprised me the way filmmaker Stan Brakhage’s The Text of Light (shot through a crystal ashtray) surprised me when I first saw it as a student, lucky enough to be at one of his screenings.

I know it’s not even close to what he pulled off, but a girl’s gotta start somewhere.

Ever unscrew a light bulb and have the glass part break off from the metal base? Ever wonder what to do to get that metal base out of the electrical socket without ending up looking like Sid Vicious? Easy. Just find a carrot, slice it where it's circumference is slightly smaller than the bulb base, jam the carrot onto the protruding metal bits inside the bulb base, and gently unscrew. It works -- I shit you not. Thanks for the hint, Dan. Never would have come up with this solution on my own, not in a million years.

52 - 2016 - Light bulbs

Rather boring, but this is all I could do for this topic.

Lily bulbs contain overlapping scales or plates similar in appearance to an artichoke. These can be separated and used to start new lilies.
