At the dawn of new lunar exploration campaigns, scheduled for the years to come, in order to detect and map the location of important natural elements such as hydrogen, oxygen and lunar water, our project “Moon Exploration” commemorates the lunar exploration missions, 50 years ago now!

This collaborative project build in real Lego bricks was created in November 2021 by Valerie Roche and Matthew Nolan.

At Minifigure scale (1/42), our 302 bricks design includes:

-A display base measuring 26 x 18 studs (20.8 x 14.4 cm) with, inscribed on its periphery, the 12 astronauts’ names who walked on the Moon.

-The Moon Buggy (LRV: Lunar Roving Vehicle) designed to help astronauts explore the surface of the moon.

For more playability, like in real life, our model includes all the on-board instruments and can be folded up to fit in a volume of 6 x 6 x 9 studs.

- Retro-reflector (LLRE: Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment) that accurately measures the earth-moon distance and its variations with the round trip of a laser pulse sent from the Earth.

-Seismometer (PSEP: Passive Seismic Experiment Package) Fully autonomous with orientable solar panels and a telecommunications system. It also comprises a lunar dust detector.

-Two astronauts and the American flag.

A small vote from you at Lego Ideas would be of great help to us, without your collaboration, this Lego brick model project will have no chance of becoming reality!

The Apollo 17 Mission Commander Eugene Cernan's spacesuit building guide: #CSS160 concerns a 659 Lego brick design at the 1 / 7.8 scale and of course it fits perfectly into the Lego LRV set #42182. This 210-page two-parts building guide includes:

1 The spacesuit build

- Building instructions for the Apollo 17 spacesuit which is an alternative design built from 72,5% of the Lego set bricks: Astronaut #31152.

- Two brick lists (.xml style) to be able to buy the bricks either by using those from the Lego set #31152 (set cost around €50) and adding 181 additional common bricks (Bricklink average cost: €18), or by buying all 659 bricks (Bricklink average cost: €46).

- A printable decals sheet.

2 Updates of the Lego LRV NASA Apollo 17 set #42182

- Modifications of the central control panel, the footboards, the seats to move them back, the rounded arches on the sides of the chassis, the color TV camera and the 16mm film camera with the addition of a support to be able to attach it to the astronaut.

- Addition of "Tile" bricks on the base of the chassis and a fixing element between the astronaut and the seat.

- A brick list (.xml style) to be able to buy the 100 bricks added to the LRV (Bricklink average cost: €16).

- Mini tutorial with printable template to add a gold metal mesh to the high gain antenna using Chase Kesner's awesome original design!

This .pdf booklet will be on sale (15€) from 07 November 2024. It will only be available on request by email here: aloha.bricks@gmail.com

Thanks :-)
