Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC, in Portland Place and Langham Place, London. The first radio broadcast was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience, and lobby that was used as a location for filming the 1998 BBC television series In the Red.
As part of a major consolidation of the BBC's property portfolio in London, Broadcasting House has been extensively renovated and extended. This involved the demolition of post-war extensions on the eastern side of the building, replaced by a new wing completed in 2005. The wing was named the "John Peel Wing" in 2012, after the disc jockey. BBC London, BBC Arabic Television and BBC Persian Television are housed in the new wing, which also contains the reception area for BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra (the studios themselves are in the new extension to the main building).
The main building was refurbished, and an extension built to the rear. The radio stations BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra and the BBC World Service transferred to refurbished studios within the building. The extension links the old building with the John Peel Wing, and includes a new combined newsroom for BBC News, with studios for the BBC News channel, BBC World News and other news programming. The move of news operations from BBC Television Centre completed in March 2013.
The official name of the building is Broadcasting House but the BBC now also uses the term new Broadcasting House (with a small 'n') in its publicity referring to the new extension rather than the whole building, with the original building known as old Broadcasting House. [Wikipedia]

During the American Civil War, the city was almost entirely burned to the ground in General William T. Sherman's famous March to the Sea. However, the city rose from its ashes and quickly became a national center of commerce and the unofficial capital of the "New South". During the 1950s and 1960s, Atlanta became a major organizing center of the civil rights movement, with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph David Abernathy, and many other locals playing major roles in the movement's leadership. During the modern era, Atlanta has attained international prominence as a major air transportation hub, with Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport being the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.
Atlanta is rated as a "beta(+)" world city that exerts a moderate impact on global commerce, finance, research, technology, education, media, art, and entertainment. It ranks in the top twenty among world cities and 10th in the nation with a gross domestic product (GDP) of $385 billion. Atlanta's economy is considered diverse, with dominant sectors that include transportation, logistics, professional and business services, media operations, medical services, and information technology. Atlanta has topographic features that include rolling hills and dense tree coverage, earning it the nickname of "the city in a forest." Revitalization of Atlanta's neighborhoods, initially spurred by the 1996 Summer Olympics, has intensified in the 21st century, altering the city's demographics, politics, aesthetics, and culture.

The CNN Center is the world headquarters of CNN. The main newsrooms and studios for several of CNN's news channels are located in the building. The facility's commercial office space is occupied by various units of the former Turner Broadcasting System, now part of the AT&T subsidiary WarnerMedia. The CNN Center is located in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park.

Cable News Network (CNN) is an American news-based pay television channel owned by AT&T's WarnerMedia. CNN was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner as a 24-hour cable news channel. Upon its launch, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.

Broadcasting tower is a new high-rise student accommodation building in Leeds city centre. One of its most interesting features is the COR-TEN cladding, which, upon exposure to weather, develops a rust-like layer, protecting it from any more corrosion.
Most of the people I know are not very fond of how the tower looks, but it's hard to deny that its interesting facade and unusual angular shapes make it a very suitable object for photography :)
On Saturday 18 May, the 14th national rally since October 2023 was organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other groups, and possibly as many as 250,000 protesters marched across central London from Mortimer Street W1 (near the BBC headquarters at Broadcasting House) to Whitehall, just a few metres away from prime minister Rishi Sunak's office and residence at 10 Downing Street.
It is difficult to estimate the total number of demonstrators but I stopped on Regent Street to photograph individuals and groups, and it took at least an hour for the majority of the marchers to pass.
Many of those participating did so in part to commemorate Nakba Day, the 76th anniversary of which fell three days earlier on 15 May. Nakba Day commemorates the brutal ethnic cleansing and expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and villages in the months after 15 May 1948 by the Israeli army and Zionist militia. Although historians point out that the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land long predated 15 May 1948, and has continued ever since.
Many of the protesters carried the iconic "Keys of Return," symbolising the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their original homes, which was recognised by The United Nations UN General Assembly Resolution 194 which was passed on December 11, 1948.
Protesters were also demanding an immediate ceasefire, an immediate resumption and expansion of emergency aid and an end to the siege of Gaza and the illegal Israeli Occupation.
The march occurred just two days before the International Criminal Court's (ICC's) lead prosecutor, Karim Khan, announced that arrest warrants for war crimes had been requested for Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. It was Gallant who in October 2023 infamously justified his declaration of a "complete siege " on Gaza by claiming Israel was "fighting against human animals."

One of three signs acquired by Ian Little for the Foxton trolleybus museum before Broadcasting House in Wellington was demolished in 1997 to promote Radio Foxton which first started broadcasting from the trolleybus museum site in September 1991, and which now broadcasts 24/7 from Foxton's MAVtech museum in Avenue Rd.
Broadcasting House was a multi-purpose broadcasting centre on Bowen Street, Wellington.
In its heyday in the 1960s, 70s and 80s Broadcasting House was the home of what are now known as Radio New Zealand National, Radio New Zealand Concert, Radio New Zealand International, the AM Network, Newstalk ZB, Radio Sport, ZM Wellington, Access Radio, and the news operations for Radio New Zealand and commercial radio. There were also music and drama studios for radio and commercial recordings, commercial production studios and a master control room.
In the 1980s the commercial radio stations moved out and it became the home of public radio.
During 1996 Radio New Zealand, by now a separate public broadcasting company, was informed that it would have to leave the building because it was to be demolished as part of planned changes to the Parliamentary precinct.
The last broadcast from Broadcasting House was on Sunday July 20, 1997. Earlier in the month all of Radio New Zealand’s operations had been transferred to Radio New Zealand House, on the Terrace. Plans to build on the Broadcasting House site, including one radical idea to move the Beehive and finally complete the old Parliament buildings, were shelved and to this day the site is occupied by a park.

Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC, in Portland Place and Langham Place, London. The first radio broadcast was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience, and lobby that was used as a location for filming the 1998 BBC television series In the Red.
As part of a major consolidation of the BBC's property portfolio in London, Broadcasting House has been extensively renovated and extended. This involved the demolition of post-war extensions on the eastern side of the building, replaced by a new wing completed in 2005. The wing was named the "John Peel Wing" in 2012, after the disc jockey. BBC London, BBC Arabic Television and BBC Persian Television are housed in the new wing, which also contains the reception area for BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra (the studios themselves are in the new extension to the main building).
The main building was refurbished, and an extension built to the rear. The radio stations BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra and the BBC World Service transferred to refurbished studios within the building. The extension links the old building with the John Peel Wing, and includes a new combined newsroom for BBC News, with studios for the BBC News channel, BBC World News and other news programming. The move of news operations from BBC Television Centre completed in March 2013.
The official name of the building is Broadcasting House but the BBC now also uses the term new Broadcasting House (with a small 'n') in its publicity referring to the new extension rather than the whole building, with the original building known as old Broadcasting House.

I was clearing out my work bag when I was tagged by the finest guitarist and most suspect navigator I know. So I got scribbling aided by a nice cup of tea. The recording machine is the "Nagra" which gave me my Flickr name.

5: For my last birthday my wife bought me a Flight Simulator for the computer and a right-handed joystick.

8: I once nipped to the loo after a night shift at BBC TV Centre, and bumped into the Prime Minister of the time, the Right Hon Tony Blair MP, who was more than a little surprised to bump into anyone.
