The bridge and tunnel is part of the 101 highway. Just at the other side of the valley is the Madeira Botanical Gardens.

As I documented old, abandoned stretches of the HCRH, I looked in particular for the remnants of the beautiful bridges and tunnels that made the HCRH so unique. This is one of the back-filled Mosier Twin Tunnels that has since been restored. This is as it looked in 1994. Unfortunately, I was never able to get back to here (or on the other side of the tunnels) before ODOT closed off the area, in preparation to restore the highway.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024 MTA Bridges and Tunnels and Construction & Development tested the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel flood doors overnight, in preparation for potential hurricanes or tropical storms.
Through 25 joint enforcement operations focusing on ghost plates and persistent toll violators on bridges and in tunnels throughout New York City, MTA Bridge and Tunnel officers, NYPD officers and local law enforcement partners have impounded 1,540 vehicles, made 339 arrests and issued 12,007 summonses. These drivers owe more than $12.5 million in unpaid tolls and fees.

We went to Cottage Grove for the covered bridge tour. Initially, this route was meant to be a biking experience that started at downtown Cottage Grove. Since the weather called for rain, we opted for a 20+ miles drive instead.
This quiet little town has a world class cycling path. The bike path went through forest and grassy areas, over bridges and tunnels. It made me envious of not having the opportunities to ride here.

Time's Up Environmental Organization helped start memorializing with stencils and ghost bikes. This, in turn, put pressure on the city to redesign a lot of the streets, especially around bridges and tunnels which were especially dangerous. This campaign spread nationally.

2018 marks 50 years since Washington, D.C., and many other urban areas around the nation exploded in civil disturbances in the wake of the assassination of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But as noted at the 2017 D.C. History Conference, D.C. in 1968 was about much more than the civil disturbances.
The workshop serves as an introduction to resources relating to many aspects of life in Washington, D.C. in 1968, including local activist movements, experiments in community-advised policing, and developments in art and architecture.

As for the Police Department, its boats patrol the harbor, escort big ships like the Queen Mary 2 into port, rescue stranded boaters, fish “floaters” — dead bodies — from the water, and check air vents in bridges and tunnels for terrorists’ explosives.

On 14th Oct 2018, 10000 Hong Kong protesters hold a rally from Causeway Bay to the Central Office, to protest the government 's plan to spend probably 1 trillion Hong Kong dollars to build artificial islands and accompanying bridges and tunnels in the East of Lantau Island.
The former "East Lantau Metropolis project" proposed to reclaim 1000 hectares , has been replaced this week by an even more ambitious project of "Lantau Tomorrow Vision " of reclaiming 1700 hectares to house 1.1million people by the Chief Executive Carrie Lam, preempting the awaited public consultation report by the Task Force on Land Supply.
The protestors worried the project has not considered the risks under extreme weather, will irreversibly damage the environment, burn up the whole fiscal reserve, and deprive the public of the funding for other more important fields like medical , education, and retirement scheme.
Moreover the project , requiring 2 to 3 decades to complete , cannot cater for the immediate housing needs of the general public, as compared to other source of land supply such as the Fanling Golf Course , brownfield sites and buy back farmland from private estate developers for public housing.

On October 15, 2024, The Port Authority Police, NYPD, NY State Police, NYC Sherriff, New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, MTA Police/ Tunnel and Bridge Officers/ Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Agency and New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission Police participated in an Interagency Task Force Operation at the Outerbridge Crossing in Staten Island.

There were kids and adults of all ages, hipsters to bridge-and-tunnel crew, more than a few dogs (we had the three Cavalier King Charles spaniels I'm boarding!), and everyone seemed to be so into it.
