Start of breakup on the Klondike River,30k east of Dawson. This is a sure sign its spring/ And such a beautiful day too.
Spring meltwater upwelling over the ice, then re-freezing at night... and the Robertson River takes on this turquoise blue color typical of spring breakup. The color is due to the great density of the ice, very little air present.
Yes! at long last we have an indication that spring will (eventually) arrive at our door step: ice has begun to break up on the surface of the river just north of Montreal. Yeepee!

Tin Lizzie’s design came about from the story of the astounding Lizzie, the elephant who pulled the Sheffield Steelworks cart during the WWI period. When the country went to war, the military purchased most of the available horses and sent them to the Western Front. Lizzie the Indian elephant was drafted in by scrap merchant Thomas Ward Ltd, based at Albion Works on Savile Street in Attercliffe, as a replacement to carry heavy machinery and steel around Sheffield. She was a hard worker but records of her time in the city also suggest that she was a bit of a cheeky character – she even used to use her truck to sneak food out through kitchen windows! This year marks 100 years since she started her work. Mik designed Tin Lizzie to look like she has been made of steel components with a smelting furnace, as used in the 1900’s, for her power core. The name ‘Tin Lizzie’ was also a nickname for the Model T Ford car – which was the car of her day.

As well as producing over 400 murals for businesses, schools and communities, he has also been involved with many of the Wild in Art sculpture trails across the nation. Summer 2016, a herd of elephant sculptures descended on Sheffield for the biggest public art event the city has ever seen!
58 elephant sculptures, each uniquely decorated by artists, descended on Sheffield’s parks and open spaces, creating one of the biggest mass participation arts events the city has ever seen. Did you find them all?
The trail of elephants celebrates Sheffield’s creativity with over 75% of artists from the city. Some well-known names include Pete McKee, James Green, Jonathan Wilkinson and Lydia Monks – each of which has put their own creative mark on a 1.6m tall fibreglass elephant sculpture. They are all very difference, take a selfie with your favourite as they will be on display until the end of September.
International artist Mark Alexander, who is currently working with Rembrandt for an exhibition in Berlin, flew to Sheffield especially to paint his elephant and international players from the World Snooker Championship signed SnookHerd, an elephant celebrating the heritage of snooker in Sheffield.
The Arctic Monkeys, famous for their love of their home city, added their signatures to their own personalised sculpture which pays homage to the striking sound wave cover of the band’s 2013 album “AM”.

The Herd of Sheffield Farewell Weekend was held on 14-16 October and was your chance to say a last goodbye to all 58 large elephant sculptures as they gather in one place for a final send-off at Meadowhall.
This special event gave visitors a chance to see the entire herd in all its glory – from the signed Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’ elephant, right through to ‘SnookHerd’, autographed by a host of international snooker players including current world champion Mark Selby.
Please note that the Little Herd elephants will not be on display as they will be returned to their school for pupils to enjoy.

I stood on the same spot waiting for the colors I was sure would come. The clouds were right and the sun set beautifully, but the thin layer of subtle red and gold on the horizon was all the evening could deliver. Without the strong colors the composition had to make up for it so an interesting breakup of ice in the foreground sufficed.

The way I am conceiving this scene, Nolan (played by Conan Bankersbox) is returned from seeking a resolution for Melanda's problem, but Melanda believes the only thing to do is to break up with Nolan and leave him. As you can see from photo 4, the breakup isn't an easy one for either side....

Strobist/mindset: I wanted to create a scene of a after-breakup desperate watching romantic movies
I've started with Profoto PRO81 head with 4foot octa filtered with blue gel to fill the room as an after-dusk ambient, to give me some exposure range to work in.
Keylight for the desperate lady was another PRO41 head with a gridded beauty dish, non-filtered, i wanted to create sort of a TV/display/projector light, but not to blue to completely destroy the skin tones.
Outside were two blue-filtered Vivitar 285 speedlites.
The rim light for the couch was PRO41 head with a gridded zoom reflector, filtered blue as well, motivated by the two speedlites outside, for me it's sort of stitching the whole scene together lighting-wise.

The lovely girl on the photo is my girlfriend and immediately after releasing the picture I got a call from my mom "what the heck happened?" And it was just my bad sense of humor.

2014 was such a wonderful year and full to the brim. Don't get me wrong, it had its ups and downs, but most of the time it was damn enjoyable. There were hard days thrown in -- the ones with tears and ugliness and words slipping out of my mouth i so wish i had never said. I called these emotions growing pains. I've learned, when someone dies, it tells you the value of life. When you get into arguments or breakup with someone you love, it tells you how valuable relationships are. When you get disappointed, it tells you how your expectations are far far to unreal.
What can i say, it was an unforgettable 2014, with all the ups and downs and joy and sadness that came along. It's a beautiful life. It really is.
Now would be a good time to say thank you for reading all these years, and of course for every one of the kind comments you've taken the time to send my way. I look forward to sharing some of our newest adventure with you. Happy 2015!

The ice is breaking up at Bear Lake. The wind has pushed huge piles of ice on shore at a few locations on the east side, including here at Rainbow Cove. On this day, another snowstorm was moving in, and the gray skies were a strong contrast with the blue and white piles of ice.

I am starting this 365 project...again. I believe in myself. I trust in God.
You may have seen the ba-jillion pictures of Sebastian and I on this Flickr account. Well, here is the bad news...we broke up. We ended our 4 year relationship on January 17th. He wants to focus on school and himself. I want the same thing. We both love each other but we're going to take care of ourselves now. We are 20 years old and we're in college with jobs. It is really painful but i'm ready now to begin my life on my own. We are being set free and if by chance, one day in the future, we run into each other, and we still feel something...then we will try again. If it comes back around, it's meant to be right?
This picture symbolizes our relationship in all it's glory, love, heartbreak, and trust. It also symbolizes me, feeling weak, admitting I am wrong, but also...getting right back up and giving life all i've got. I'm going to try so hard to make this project work this time but like always, I can't make any promises. I'm just going to try.
I'm also starting P90X Lean. Day 1 was today and it was "Core Synergistics." I did the whole thing (40 minutes until the DVD stopped playing). Hopefully on April 19th, i will have completed P90X and I'll be looking good.... just in time for summer, too!
Wish me luck. I'm still in a lot of pain from this breakup...i grew up with Sebastian and I discovered myself. He helped me with so many things... learning how to snowboard, breaking out of my shell, and most importantly, he helped me find God. I'll be forever grateful to him and i'll always love him. I hope one day we can make it work because I want to be with him still. I love you, Sebastian, ich liebe dich.

In Alaska, more so than elsewhere I think, we use the term “breakup” as both a noun and a verb. In the latter sense as a description of the ice going out on the rivers, which can be quite dramatic and occurs at different times depending on any number of circumstances. But we also say “Breakup” to refer to a season, in many ways its more or equally significant than “Spring.” After the calm and soft season of winter, breakup is a raucous and mad rush, as if to say there’s no time for spring, let’s get to summer straight on. Breakup is rather late this year, in fact it may be record setting late.
This is the little Chena River, a relatively small stream, the larger rivers are still mostly locked in ice. This shot was made from the Nordale Road bridge looking upstream. You will notice the ice jam up above, in populated areas near the river those things can cause some real problems.
The breakup of the Soviet Union left Kazakhstan with large numbers of tactical reconnaissance and strike aircraft, plus a heavy bomber regiment at Chargan Air Base near Semipalatinsk with 40 Tupolev Tu-95M5 strategic missile carrier aircraft. However, the newly-formed republic had no tactical units at all and had no use for the bombers. Wanting to keep on friendly terms with Kazakhstan so they could continue to use the Baikonur Space Centre and several military training grounds in the country, Russia exchanged the bombers for a suitable number of Su-27 and MiG-29 and Su-25 fighters from Russian Air Force stocks. By 1995, 73 combat aircraft were delivered including 38 Flankers. The Su-27s entered service with the 60th IAP in 1999 and by 2000 the Kazakhstan Air Force was reformed into the Republic of Kazakhstan Air Defence Force with aviation bases as the primary elements in its order of battle, not air regiments. The 60th IAP was transformed into the 604th AvB and stationed at Taldykorgan, with some Flankers being transferred to Qarahandy-Sary Arka International airport in order to have a more even distribution of fighters across the country.
In September 2007, the Kazakhstan Air Defence Force sent ten of its Su-27s to 558th ARZ in Baranovichi, Belarus for upgrades to the BM2 standard. The N001 radar was upgraded with the actual beam and ground mapping modes and increased its compatibility with the R-77 active radar homing AAM and the Kh-31A anti-shipping missile. The cockpit featured an EFIS with colour liquid-crystal MFDs, an enhanced navigation system, a data collection/transmission system, and data cockpit recorders. The first BM2 variant was completed in 2009. In 2015, the Kazakhstan Air Defence Force placed an order for 24 Su-30SM aircraft to replace its ageing MiG-27 Floggers.
In this image, a recently upgraded Su-27BM2 (“05 Yellow”) from the 604th AvB at Taldykorgan flies over the Kazakhstan countryside. 05 Yellow was the first Su-27 to receive the BM2 upgrades in Belarus. The new paint scheme also does away with the old Soviet-era camouflage with a dazzling dark blue, light blue, and grey pattern. Note the two B-13L rocket launchers mounted on the number 3 and 4 pylons.
