The rule that I am breaking is the composition rule to never center your subject. I think centering works great here.

… I might break the rules!! I might just open the gate. I mean, who could resist looking for the gold in a rainbow’s impact area?!

117 Pictures in 2017 … #48. Break the Rules (I know, I know! It’s meant to be about breaking the “photography rules”, and maybe I’ll replace this photo before the end of the year  )

Traveled to southern Delaware last weekend and stopped at a famous abandoned place along the way.

It was dark and cloudy with some drizzle here and there. We poked around bit, grabbed a few shots and started off again.

This is the entrance to a mossy covered outbuilding.

The grand old brick house that once went with this has some historic value and not so very long ago could have been saved.

But, the price was set too high for someone to buy it and take on the repair costs. Now the roof is gone on the main house and all four of the floors have caved in. Soon, they will pull it all down and extend the roadway and intersection.

Captured with iPhone and edited on the iPad in Snapseed.

I have a black and white version that I like and will probably post one day in the future.

52 weeks of 2016 - Week 3 - Break the Rules

There was something very peaceful about the beach yesterday, I had to capture it somehow. Some may say this shot breaks the rules, but arent rules meant to be broken?

I went to a diocesan meeting here today.

The Compositionally Challenged group has chosen Break the Rules for Week 40 in 2023.

@52Frames Week 53 Challenge: Break The Rules

December, 2021

Numerous composition rules broken in this photo: misleading lines, too many subjects, and a slightly blown out highlight. Not to mention overly saturated!

"It's snowing still,' said Eeyore gloomily.

So it is"

And freezing"

Is it?"

Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

Playing around with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) out in the garden. Sometimes these photos make me dizzy when I look at them, but they are sure full of energy. HSS ! !

Sub Rosa!

I think I am pushing the theme of the challenge a bit hard but I am out of ideas.

HCS!

This week Frank challenged me to find a sign and break the rule in public.

Check out Frank's image here. It rocks!

I have some pens and pencils.

A moleskine.

And a head full of quotes, lyrics and the like.

30 Days of composition: last day

Forgetting the rule of thirds and putting this country path bang in the middle of the frame.

Intentionally out of focus, crooked horizon, back lighting.

November 11th. Always shoot in good light (ie not deep dank wet mist) and if you are shooting in low light, always use a tripod. Er.

I've put the original in comments so you can see that there is minimal processing here. Yes it really is that dull and misty

AAW Challenge: Breaking the Rules

Yes I am guilty of moving my camera while taking the shot..Ooops

Cropped and enhanced the colour, brought down the exposure a little and sharpened

Bring the guns and pistols.. I'm breaking all the rules :)

Usually in portraits the whole face is shown, I broke the rules by photographing only parat of the face, and it seems to be 'falling off' the side of the page.

I asked my husband to pose but he refused, my trusty doll of over 40 years came to the rescue!

Breaking the rule of thirds the shutter speed on this Canon AE-1 is set to it's default flash setting of 1/60th of a second.

Our Daily Challenge - Break The Rules - 7/14/16

My instinct wants balance, equilibrium, ... Generally my photos automatically tend to place themselves in some form of photographic rules. I think that this photo is breaking some rule with the petals just hanging in space....... Do you agree? Thanks!

To break the rule I tilted the BT Tower but in doing so I followed other rules. I created two strong diagonals and a leading line that lead to a lucky motion blur. It is difficult being a rebel :)

A collection of various tree seeds that had been blown about by the spring winds to form a pile.

I got a lot of stares from people passing when taking this set of photos. They probably thought I was a bit nutty.

Rules broken: not in focus, horizon crooked

Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile........

Life seems to give crazy challenges and the more I deal with it the more that I realize that I seem to have a major issue with conforming. This image shows that the even some candies have a tough time conforming.

Breaking the rule of thirds. The lift dominates the scene.

for odc2 - Break the rules

Someone else broke some rules…I just broke some processing rules!

I love ferns. I love the green.

I am breaking the golden rule of photography again by putting the green on green.

I read a book and it said whatever makes you happy and enjoying while picture taking, that is probably the right approach.

Shot taken at UBC Botanical Garden Vancouver.

I am so forgetful and I found I have broken the Rule of Thirds again in my composition!

Shooting into the sun at Garry Point Park yesterday.

But... we can't see it here at the moment.. Where are you, Mr. Sun?

Waiting for the sun - The Doors

I would have preferred to crop this tighter but I didn't want to crop out the sun or the colored flare in the lower left. I hope everyone is enjoying better weather than we are at the moment :-). Have a great weekend, everyone!

For 52 weeks of 2016, Week 3: "Break the Rules"

The teacher of the photo class I took always told us that symmetry is boring: don't put the subject in the middle, don't put the horizon in the middle.

So I guess he wouldn't have liked this practically symmetrical photo. It shows the ceiling of the central hall of the former post office in Rotterdam. Today there was a photo meetup, where we were allowed to photograph in this abandoned building ("urbex").

ODC - Break the Rules. A lot of obvious faux pas in this snapshot of a street kitten in Ciudad Real, Spain but the rule I was aiming to break was that of White Balance. I think the cat was too hot to move, it was 11pm and still 36 degrees and humid - yuk!!!

They are called love locks. People hang them on parts of the bridge and throw away the key, signifying a forever commitment.

Despite the fact that this custom, apparently long popular in many European cities, has come to Brooklyn, according to Wikipedia, it is officially illegal in New York...

Making a photo with the subject in the dead center is usually frowned upon, too.
