Una carissima amica inglese, mi ha spiegato che da loro il 26 di dicembre, quello che da noi si festeggia come S. Stefano, si ricorda con piacere il giorno in cui veniva distribuita la scatola con dei regali, ma soprattutto viveri, da parte delle ditte in cui si lavorava. Usanza tra l'altro in voga anche da noi negli anni '80. Se non erro però, le date di consegna erano prima delle ferie natalizie o per la befana.

This is the traditional meal for the day after Christmas Day: cold meat and pickle with fried mashed vegetables :)
Christmas day is over for another year, so we sit and have a rousing game of three handed cribbage. I lost...badly. I like the week between Christmas and New Year day, kick back and relax and settle in for the long winter. Books to read, sewing to do and planning for the gardening year to come, also snow to shovel and walk the dogs to try to keep in shape :(
