Day 45 of 365.

I bought this flash in the UK with my PZ42X which was stolen last year. I thought it was a manual flash, but it's TTL only, so have seen limited use. I'm now selling it to get a new flash. Sad to see it go, but I need an off camera flash

Had a visit from the DHL lady today. She brought a rather boring cardboard box which had rather fabby contents!

Not any old box. This is a box that was constructed by my brother possibly 30 years ago for the purpose of holding letters and newspapers delivered by mail people on bicycles. The letterbox is on the street frontage of the house that I lived in during my school years in Auckland.

This ornate box had an interesting wound on its shell that can kind of be seen from this shot.

Depicting the box that traps me from my social life with friends. It's really not that bad of a job...I was just having some fun. You can either take it that I'm trapped...or it's just another modeling gimmick. It actually kind of reminds me of Zoolander. To each his/her own I suppose.

I was told to eat one of these when I came to Hiroshima. And so I did. I bought this bento box on my way back to the Kanto region and ate it in the bullet train ride there.

Sadly, it wasn't as good as I anticipated. I get the feeling however that had I eaten it in a proper place rather than buy it from a train station vendor, it would have turned out much better.

The pieces were thin, hard, and not too flavoursome. A disappointment for how much I paid for. I believe it was somewhere along the line of 1200-1500 yen.

Swifts and people to live under same roof

Swifts are declining nationally and Camden Council has installed nest boxes high up on various housing blocks to help to address the decline.

One of the reasons for the decline is modern construction practices which render once-accessible nesting sites under roof eaves inaccessible.

The installation of swift nesting boxes in high-rise buildings is seen as one way to counter-act this problem, providing suitable nesting sites for this fascinating bird.

Amazingly swifts spend most of their time in the air even sleeping and mating in mid-air! Swifts arrive from Africa in and regularly use buildings in the UK to breed. They nest in high man-made structures under tiles, in the eaves and in lofts.

The housing sustainability and nature conservation teams worked in partnership to install swift boxes on non-residential walls. Swift bricks were cemented into the wall to provide long-lasting nest sites. If successful - the nest boxes will only be used for a few months (May to August) to raise broods of chicks. As the chicks do make a slight chirping noise, the stairwell walls were used to eliminate any chirping disturbance that could occur on dwelling walls.

There will be no cost to residents for this installation and the boxes do not require regular cleaning as the adults also eat most of the droppings their chicks produce!

These nest boxes contribute towards targets in Camden’s latest Biodiversity Action Plan to provide a variety of nesting habitat throughout the borough.

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.

Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.

Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’

Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.

A new delivery of archival boxes sits ready to be filled by archivist Bob Malme. Bob has catalogued a number of our larger archival collections!

This box was my final project for my woodworking class in my first semester at BCIT. It was constructed out of black walnut and finished with 4 coats of danish oil and briwax. I was really happy with how the knot turned out in the top of the box, especially the smoky section on the far right portion of the knotted panel. This was my first time doing box joints, and while the joints themselves were not to difficult to create, sanding the walnut end grain took quite some time.

Box covered in eyelet lace for wedding cards. Fabric was hot glued onto white box.

This morning I had no left overs, so it all needed to be made from scratch. The weird stuff under the lemon verbena leaves are very thin omelettes, cooled and then with a spread of smoked salmon, philadelphia cheese and creme fraiche.
