A quiet afternoon, so I looked through some old files and found this one of Jen. Thought I'd put a different slant on it.
Altered Valentine Candy Box I made for Heidi with her glittery monogram in center. I was inspired by all the Victorian & Marie Antoinette action action around blogland.
I just imagine how many boats have seen this sentry box since the XVIII century,Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Based on the previous tessellation, 2 different boxes.
- Single star: hexagon from 20x20 square, 32 division grid,
- Triple star: hexagon from 24x24 square, 48 division grid.
During the Mexican–American War of 1846–1848 The Mormon Battalion cut a road around Box Canyon in the process of opening a southern wagon route to California. Parts of the road are still visible there. The battalion was a volunteer unit of around 500 Latter-day Saints men whose march of nearly 2,000 miles from Council Bluffs, Iowa to San Diego, California helped to secure the eventual cession of much of the American Southwest from Mexico to the United States. The only battle they fought was against a large herd of wild cattle in Arizona. Anza Borrego State Park, California, US
You won't see this many pretty boxes lined up in a row - Well unless you take a drive through a St Kilda side street.
Not the best light box one can make but it's one of the easiest to construct with instructions easily found on the internet. The tracing paper is a little too thin but it does make a difference in getting rid of unwanted color cast.
When opened the memories come flooding back to my wife. Naturally she emailed my photographs to her pen-pal from all those years ago.

A gorgeous Box Bug on leaves of Scilla peruviana in the front garden. This was one of those species that eluded my searches for so many years, and now one turns up in the garden. What a fabulous visitor.
Box Bug (Gonocerus acuteangulatus)
This one suddenly appeared flying across my office and landed on a power lead...

Lidded box with Dachshund millefiori cane decoration. The dachshund cane was my second attempt at a really complicated millefiori cane.....whew it took me ages, 2 weeks to be precise and once finished weighed a whopping 1.2 kg. After reduction I had a bit more than half left and its a bit more wonky than I hoped it would be, I think I need to practise this a lot....but not now I'm a bit canned out after all that! Now what am I going to do with all that dachshund cane!
A little addition, the yellow Mail Box is the post office of V City. As a corner building, it could just be a typical one using up all the space provided, but I want to reclaim it back to the public. I open up the two sides of the box, creating a semi-outdoor entrance. The building is then constructed along the remaining two walls.
The grey little box is the entrance where you have the normal mail services and buy postcards and stuff. The black box is the office area, in which staff sorts the mail and does other administrative things. The lift shaft and the loading bay hide nicely behind these two walls also, without disrupting the grand entrance space.
The top roof has an opening, allowing the drones to be dispatched. What a fast way to do quick mailing service!
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All go to the university,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
And there's doctors and there's lawyers
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf-course,
And drink their Martini dry,
And they all have pretty children,
And the children go to school.
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
And they all get put in boxes
And they all come out the same.
And the boys go into business,
And marry, and raise a family,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

Don't be fooled by the bland exterior of this place. Inside it is quite a unique box, combining the miniature style type "L" frame, an "NX" panel and a Westcad section.
Built in 1962, this box is a relative youngster in the area. The Westinghouse type "L" style miniature lever frame will be unique when Liverpool Lime Street closes in 2018. Indeed, the magpies of the S&T department have already been investigating the use of spares from Lime Street to prolong the life of the SR box.
