Bournemouth Railway Station - platforms 2 & 3. Designed by William Jacob, and opened on 20 July 1885 as Bournemouth East replacing an earlier original station slightly up-line which had opened in 1870. Later known as Bournemouth Central until 1967,then it became Bournemouth. It was extensively refurbished in 2000 after many years in a near ruinous state.

Bournemouth is a coastal resort town on the south coast of England, east of the 96-mile-long (155 km) Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. At the 2011 census, the town had a population of 183,491, making it the largest in Dorset. With Poole to the west and Christchurch in the east, Bournemouth is part of the South East Dorset conurbation.

Before it was founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, the area was a deserted heathland occasionally visited by fishermen and smugglers. Initially marketed as a health resort, the town received a boost when it appeared in Augustus Granville's 1841 book, The Spas of England. Bournemouth's growth accelerated with the arrival of the railway, and it became a town in 1870. Historically part of Hampshire, it joined Dorset with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. Through local government changes in 1997, the town began to be administered by a unitary authority independent of Dorset County Council, although it remains part of that ceremonial county. Since April 2019 the unitary authority has been merged with that of Poole, as well as the non-metropolitan district of Christchurch to create the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole unitary authority.

The town centre has notable Victorian architecture and the 202-foot (62 m) spire of St Peter's Church, one of three Grade I listed churches in the borough, is a local landmark. Bournemouth's location has made it a popular destination for tourists, attracting over five million visitors annually with its beaches and popular nightlife. The town is also a regional centre of business, home of the Bournemouth International Centre or BIC, and a financial sector that is worth more than £1,000 million in gross value added.

Some more photos from along the beach to the west of Bournemouth Pier. It would be wrong to not include a deckchair shot with a sandy beach!!

An old one - I got lucky with the Autumn light and cloud formations on the way to a 'lads weekend' in Bournemouth a while back. One of the best photos I've taken I reckon.

Without filters I often struggle exposing sunset shots correctly when shooting into the sun, but here (because of the brief part-occlusion by the clouds) I got lucky. When the sun popped behind this cloud for 30 seconds was my defining moment.

Thanks for looking.

Bournemouth sees me leaving the WCR charter after arriving from Chesterfield and hopping on the 444 unit on the 1300 service to Waterloo. These are formed of 10 coaches with another 5 car set attaching on the rear from Poole.Over the Bridge a Volvo Plaxton Paramount of Bournemouth firm Excelsior Travel .So just enough time to say farewell to the staff on the train until we meet again!

Almost same position as the panorama but focused more on the market area. Single shot. Another 30 minutes could have made for a more dramatic shot but didn't have that luxury.

Bournemouth in I would guess the late 70's and definitely before February 81 by which time the loco had acquired a yellow headcode panel. No heat Class 47 47320 is probably on a cross country service.

The loco was new as D1801 to Tinsley in January 1965 and most likely a Toton loco at this time.
