Mark Catesby, an English naturalist of the 18th century, remains a mysterious figure despite his tall stature amongst scientists of his day. His seminal work – The natural history of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama islands – influenced giants in the history of science, from Audubon to Carl Linnaeus, and the plants he sent back to Europe changed horticulture on the continent immeasurably. A special program co-hosted by Mann Library and the Horticulture Section spotlights Catesby’s work in North America and its lasting impact on the development of botany as a modern science.
This program included the book talk on "The Curious Mister Catesby: A Truly ‘Ingenious’ Naturalist Explores New Worlds," by Leslie Overstreet (Smithsonian Library), given at Mann Library on April 26, 2017. For a video of the talk: tinyurl.com/Catesby-Mann.

This card is for this week's SCS Inspiration Challenge ~ Two Lumps of Sugar (links on the blog).
I used multiple floral stamps starting with the lightest color and moving to the darkest. I cut one side of my card, and then used the piece I cut as a template for the other side (so they are even). I finished with a stamped butterfly & oval sentiment.
