Taken high on the western bluff of the Fox River.
Savannas are woodlands with trees situated sufficiently far apart to allow sunlight to reach the ground in many places. In Illinois and much of the Upper Midwest, savannas are mostly composed of such fire-resistant hardwoods as Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) and have a characteristic community of fire-adapted grass and wildflower species growing under them.
These trees reveling in the full sunlight are indeed Bur Oaks. From a distance they can be recognized by their massive, spaced branches and their relatively open crowns.

Another landscape shot on Botany Bay near La Perouse. There was a lot of bushfire activity around Sydney this day from weekend backburns around Sydney which gave the sun a nice orange glow after sunset.

Leo Lionni (1910-1999) is best known as the author and illustrator of forty children's picture books including the Caldecott Honor recipients Inch By Inch (1961), Swimmy (1964), Frederick (1968), and Alexander And The Wind-Up Mouse (1970). In addition to his children's work, Lionni worked in advertising, was the art director of Fortune magazine for twelve years, and was a well regarded painter and sculptor. Parallel Botany (1977) is his only book length fiction for adults.
