We have a couple of these birds visiting the backyard regularly at this time. I think they are nesting close by.

Late at night. Tired, but can't sleep. So I do what every narcissistic person does - take photos of myself.

The Boreal Chickadee has got to be one of my favorite birds! I was thrilled to get great looks at a pair along Haines Rd in the Northwestern corner of British Columbia.

Not everyone can watch a dance performance attentively

and for some that is too much to ask :):)

A friends owl box has an occupant. Of course, the owl box at my house remains unoccupied as it has for the last 40 years!

Just a light scratch on the tree and she bounces out, I suspect to deal with what she assumes is a squirrel.

The Brides of Dracula dolls idle away the days and weeks between photo shoots with hands of poker... unfortunately all that they have to play with are Tarot cards which makes it a dangerous game; get a full house and someone's likely to die!

"I swear he's forgotten about us - we didn't even get a Xmas party down here in the lab this year," mutters the Contessa

"And all those Poppy Parker dolls he's been buying but he hasn't given us even one to 'play' with! It's not fair... damn it Igor, hold still", hisses Mina.

"Sorry mistress," the hunchback apologises from under Mina.

"Damn, you've got a lumpy, uncomfortable back."

"Sorry mistress. It's not my fault, I was made this way," Igor moans.

"Yes, that'll be my fault, sorry," says the Contessa, "so Lucy, what's your call?"

"...bored bored bored bored bored..." chants Lucy.

The boreal owl owlets are getting bolder and should fledge soon.

A look inside revealed 5 owlets in the box. As it's warm today, one is almost always hanging out.

They are also getting more aware of the world. In this photo an airplane flew overhead and the owl tracked it.

Rose is greedy! She needs her attention and snuggles or she will die. Like Tinkerbell.

Boreal Chickadees are much less common in central Alberta than Black-capped Chickadees, but there are trails where we can find one or two often in association with their cousins. In more northern latitudes in Alberta there are more Boreal Chickadees than Black-capped Chickadees.

The Severn Bore is a tidal bore seen on the tidal reaches of the River Severn in England. The Severn Estuary, which empties into the Bristol Channel, has the second largest tidal range in the world — about 49 feet (15 m), exceeded only by the Bay of Fundy. The largest bores occur in spring but smaller ones can be seen throughout the year.

The bores are ranked 1 to 5*. This one was a 5*.

This Owl was captured, banded and released by licensed Owl bander Richard Chamberland. It is a lifer for me. I hope to encounter one in the wild some day.
