This encounter was a dream come true! Boreal Owl

country

We were incredibly lucky to find this normally very secretive owl out in the open and only 5 minutes away from a skittish Great Grey Owl hunting on the same stretch of road.

Getting bored of the same old thing all the time, I need to change it up a bit. I have had the last week or so where I went though some of my photos from this past year and deleted a whole bunch. But I did come across some that I liked and this being a little different I thought it was time to changes things up a bit.

Well I've chosen this one for Macro Mondays theme "Black and white" was hard to choose! I like the grain in the aluminium and the fact it runs a different direction to the ring pull.

If you didn't know metal has a grain which affects it when it is being formed, one way bends easier than the other which makes a difference of about 1.5° for the same amount of pressure. Boring I know :)

Happy macro Monday all :)

The weather turned bad so Dennis elected to stay in but is bored

Crashing bore just about sums up this non-sunrise, if not for the rocks and waves the morning would have been a total wash.

A westbound BNSF vehicle train thunders through Mullan Tunnel at Blossburg, Montana, on September 6, 2003. The train is led by a point helper of Montana Rail Link EMD SD45-2 No. 311 and former Southern Pacific (obviously) SD45 No. 7555. MRL calls these point helpers “unmanned” helper sets as they utilize the road crew that was once in the cab of BNSF 8207 upon arriving at Helena. These locomotives are normally set out on the west side of the pass at Elliston, for another train or helper set to pick up and take back to Helena. They smoke it up pretty good coming through the confining bore at the summit of Mullan Pass.

When Jasper is bored, he'll often lay like this, staring at us, front paws off to one side. Words? We don't need no stinking words! The message is clear.

Sorry for the title.. thanks for looking.

The Mandarins refused to come out into the open yesterday and even had a bit of shut-eye

Continuing to add photos from a flash drive.

I visited the Weaselhead Park in hopes of finding at least one of two special owls that had been reported in the park. Lots of walking on icy paths. I was thrilled to see this Boreal Owl as I was on my way back to the parking lot! I was never close to it and left after I got my photos.

Thanks for your visits and comments. They are all greatly appreciated!

Happy holidays to you all

This vendor of the market at Chichicastanango in Guatemala does not appear to be having a good day.

This is Boo, who whilst she has lost some weight over winter, is still a chunk. As you can see, she made short work of their new sweeping brush. It was scattered everywhere by the time she was through. I guess she would call it temporary enrichment!!

sitting with David as he watches the Giants game.... I hate sports as these grown men get paid millions for playing a game...

spend that money on people who have REAL jobs...

So here's another version of this DDG image...

Boreal owl, Southern Ontario, Mar 4, 2022.

A life bird, woohooo! Very unusual in our area.

Made a day trip to the Niagara area to see this bird. It was our first trip since covid started.

Tucked in tight to a tree trunk.

Thanks to Rob for pointing it out, we had checked all the spruce trees in the area and had missed it.

Now we just need the Elf owl.

Aegolius funereus

As with most other raptors, the female Boreal Owl is much larger than the male. In fact, they show the most extreme sexual dimorphism of any American owl, with the female sometimes 2 times heavier than the male.

It's a languid evening, an evening where nothing happens

No wind, no rain, no mist, nothing, absolutely nothing

The sweltering evaporation of the lake hangs around you like a clammy warm blanket, making you sweat annoyingly and the droplets slowly slide down your forehead

There is no wind and bored some sailing yachts in the distance lie dobbing in the water, because without wind no progress

Two ducks scurry around hoping to find some more food and a cormorant has been sitting on a pole to dry its wings for hours

But the poor stumper does not realise this is futile, as it is languid, hot and clammy........

It is languid, hot, clammy, nasting, sweltering and I hope I can catch some sleep soon........
