This is a book design and execution that I created for Susan Kozel's book Closer published by the MIT press.
It was an assignment in a UCLA Design | Media Arts Class. The front portion of the book is comprised of all the text and images, clearly setup into a four row system, which aligns to the four flipbooks at the very back of the book.
Together with German publisher ABCDEF we made this hand-bound and digital printed zine. The zine consists of photos shot by ABCDEF and tells the story of two one-of-a-kind verbal dilettantes (paint & photo). And so this zine tells you a story from a one-of-a-kind dilettantism of fledged vandalism, walking, talking and taking photos.
The zine is 25 x 17,5 cm (9,84" x 6,89"), consists of 60 digital printed pages packed in a die-cutted cover and is made in an edition of 100 copies.

This 7 x 7 book is a special edition Picturia Press designed for Brian to be showcased during the 2011 CTN Animation Expo. We also created a companion epub file for him so that he could show clients the book on his iPAD throughout the convention. Last year, we created Brian's first book, Mugs & Beards. His book has also been featured as a Blurb Staff Pick.

"Design Benign" was my senior thesis project. I studied the role of cuteness in contemporary product design, what cuteness is exactly comprised of, and how cuteness can be beneficial to design. The companion book, "Deconstructing Cute", contains the charts, sketches and notes I made during my research.

As The Nation put it, "Luba is one of the most complex figures in recent American fiction." I decided it was time to give the book a design treatment that was more in line with prose novels and the great Gilbert Hernandez kindly agreed.
