The Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya are the two mosques Istanbul's most well known for - no visit is complete without seeing both of them. But they're very different. This one doesn't have the same sense of grand space that Aya Sofya has (which predates it by over 1000 years), but oh, the tiles. How I love the tiles.

The interior of this mosque is so extraordinary that it's a bit overwhelming to try to take photographs. I was even surprised it was permitted. It's quite breathtaking, and it's really enormous, too. The light inside is wonderful.
