While leaving the beach at sunset this evening a Great Blue Heron landed along the shoreline. I was drawn into the lovely tones and backlighting and snapped off a few shots. Despite being so common I always enjoy photographing our Great Blues.
The young birds have more or less the same plumage patterns as the adult birds but the colours are quite muted. This almost pastel-like appearance perhaps identifies them as being of no possible threat to other (more competitive) birds of breeding age.
This one is probably wondering why the devil some mad, camera-wielding human has smeared fat onto the end of a branch.

View of the "Sky Link" elevated passenger walkway at Manchester Airport connecting terminals 1&2 to the Station and the Radisson Hotel.
For some twisted reason, when I was processing this photo, I immediately thought of the 1963 Bobby Vinton hit, Blue on Blue. Which is quite surprising seeing as how I disliked all the "Bobbys" from the early 60s. I was still a few years away from being a teenager but all those Bobbys... ugh. Bobby Vinton, Bobby Vee, Bobby Rydell, Bobby Curtola, Bobby Sherman, Bobby Goldsboro and Bobby Darin. OK Bobby Darin was the cool one since he was more jazzy than syrupy pop. And he did sing Mack the Knife.
We're Here looks at Blue Monday today for which I appropriately did a non-pose pose.
The valleys were full of fog this morning — before it rained — on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Mills River Valley Overlook. It's southwest of Asheville, just before you get to Mt. Pisgah.

Polymer clay blue heart pendant made using leaf canes.
Four strand necklace is made of various size glass beads in black, hematite and blue. Some hematite chips and stone chips are also used to give some dimension to the necklace.
I am really pleased with it. :)
The same leafless trees reflected in a shallow puddle on a asphalt footpath in the Wesselerbrinkpark, but now in PMS 305 and PMS Reflex Blue (made in PhotoShop - see original).
Momotus lessonii
It was another fun day in Costa Rica with loads of birds. We spent a significant chunk of the day traveling from the coast up into the mountains but still managed plenty of photo opportunities. Some of the species seen include Brown Jay, Blue-diademed Motmot, Groove-billed Ani, Boat-billed Flycatcher, Streak-headed Woodcreeper, Orange-fronted Parakeet, Squirrel Cuckoo, White-eared Ground-Sparrow, Bananaquit, Violet Sabrewing, Coppery-headed Emerald, Purple-throated Mountain-gem, Stripe-tailed Hummingbird, Green Hermit, Green Violetear, Gray-headed Chachalaca, Palm Tanager, Bullock’s Oriole and many others. We also have been seeing many species of wintering and presumably migrating warblers. Actually signs of migration are numerous such as flocks of spotted sandpipers and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers moving through.
I chose this Blue-diademed Motmot for the bird to post for today, it was our last bird of the day and it put on a great show. Hard to not be happy about a motmot!

The ambient lighting came from my tv and the main room light. I used a single flash bounced off different sides of a 5 way reflector to change the colours and experimented with the cameras WB to change the colour range.
Late afternoon on Bluff Lake at the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge.
This is straight out of the camera, except for the removal of one small spot of lens flare that really annoyed me.
This was taken at 1/3200 to keep the sun under control. The camera white balance was set to "Tungsten", which boosted the blue hues. (But the blue was done in-camera, not in Photoshop).
This Blue Heron has come to the pond right across my house for a couple of days in a row now. Always on the same spot. Could not resist and had to take a picture ... beautiful bird !
Since my back went out promptly 11 days ago, I've been out of the action, therefore feeling a bit . . . . blue. I must say I miss it, really.
My LEGO collection spans my entire lifetime and then some. I have bricks that are brand new, and some that are over 30 years old (I have bricks that are older than that, but I keep them separate, and don't build with them.) Broken and worn out bits are expected. The 4x6 plate on the right is vintage classic space, and thought it was worth a picture before I tossed it in the trash. It was a good run my friend, see you in the brick pile on the other side!
