This is a detail from the dove ornament that tops this year's Christmas tree. I noticed how nice it looked with the light coming through it, but I didn't want to do a typical Christmas shot....so I did what I usually do--took it out of context, and then...never satisfied with one version of a new image, I had to make several.

Iceberg, Antarctica. Apparently the ice absorbeds all light frequencies except blue, thus the color.
Billy was kind enough to hop onto a blue kitchen chair, as if he wanted me to compare the colour of his eyes with the fabric of the chair. I must say there was quite a good match. I'm not sure if Billy already has the definite colour of his eyes at 11 weeks. Sometimes the colour seems to be changing from blue to "brownish".
P.S. The trick with the open study door seems to work. No more car alarms then ......?

A beetle (10mm) from the Cleridae with a very densely hairy, shiny blue and sculptured - pitted body. Abdomen and basal segments of the serrate antenna are orange red. Collected in 1997 on plants in the 'forêt claires" of central Bénin (West-Africa) and kept all those years in ethanol.
Studio stack based on 174 images (ISO100, f/5.0, 1/160sec, paper diffused flash). Assembled in ZS (Dmap & Pmax), uncropped image at 2.5x (14.4mm wide).
