The Blessing
is the moment of sunsplashed brilliance,
the walking-in by chance at the time
of greatest need. The blessing is swallows
alive from Africa, cavorting in English sky.
The blessing is a surprise, like luminescence
seen from a boat at night, between islands,
and the way it rises on the swell, the shallows
all aglow with it, the tide a woman’s sigh.
The blessing doesn’t choose. Its substance
is just bestowed. We have no right.
The blessing is the rustling of willows
when dawn comes, and mayflies love and die.
We are much in need of blessing. Its essence
will not distil: it evaporates if we try.
It’s lurking in shadows; it skulks in hollows.
It weeps, yet bids us fly.

Blessings Perish Through Ingratitude
2 Chronicles 20:26; Psalm 100:4; 145:10; 2 Corinthians 4:15
Every blessing that God confers upon us perishes through our carelessness, if we are not prompt and active in rendering thanks. - JOHN CALVIN

I have found great delight in taking macro shots with my camera this year! Look at the intricate lovely details of this 'weed'. Appreciate what is all around you and that you did not notice or were not thankful for before! You will be blessed to start making your list of people, things, events, and details.
For example, have you ever thought to thank God for every heartbeat or every breath He has given you?
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!
Heb 13:15
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
On Sunday we attended the prayers and ceremony where the sand mandala is destroyed, swept back to the millions of tiny grains of marble dust. It was a moving ceremony and all those attending were given a tiny bag of the coloured marble dust.
The mandala is started from the centre and, working outwards, the monks use metal funnels called chak-pur to place the minute grains of coloured sand over a pre-marked outline design of the mandala. The vibrations of the chak-pur being grated with a metal rod cause the sands to flow like liquid.
Once completed, the mandala - a two-dimensional image of a Buddha's palace - is destroyed during a ceremony in which healing blessings are requested from the deities. As the monks chant, one monk begins the destruction by scraping a knuckle through the sand, creating a cross of grey sand. Another monk then takes a brush and carefully sweeps the sand from the perimeter to the centre of the mandala where it collected and traditionally dispersed into flowing water, a way of extending its healing powers to the whole world.
The destruction of the mandala is seen to serve as a reminder of the impermanence of life.
At the Blessing of the Hounds, in the churchyard of St. Chistopher's-by-the-River, before the Opening Meet these medals were given to each member of the Hunt. It would be tied to the horse's bridle with ribbon. It portrays St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, on the reverse of a sterling St. Christopher's medal. I received this one about 1954, and it has traveled in my wallet since then. Fond memories. It is about the size of a quarter.
I didn't take this picture it came from a friend of a friend but ....it is so good I had to share it.

This card is inspired by Lin's flower cards in a vase. I can't remember the name of this HA flower stamp. Anyway, I stamped twice and painted and cut them out. This little vase is a free download that I printed out on a scrap piece of paper. Can you see the cherries on my tree in the background?
This was the scene at the end of today (Dec. 23rd 08) at the carpentry site I am doing my day job at and I thought it might make a nice Winter Solstice/Christmas/ Hanukkah card for all my dear Flickr friends :)

Woods
by Wendell Berry
"I part the out thrusting branches
and come in beneath
the blessed and the blessing trees.
Though I am silent
there is singing around me.
Though I am dark
there is vision around me.
Though I am heavy
there is flight around me."
From Collected Poems, 1957-1982. North Point Press, New York (1985).

“Every forest branch moves differently in the breeze but as they sway they connect at the roots.”—Jelaluddin Rumi from “Birdsong” and “The Essential Rumi”
"Look at the beauty and perfection of nature. Everything in nature is so joyful, even though it doesn't have the intelligence of a human being. All of creation is rejoicing. The most beautiful flowers are picked by people —torn by their stems. Some are made into garlands while others are trampled heedlessly. A flower has such a short life span, and yet it offers itself wholeheartedly to others; it even offers its own nectar to the bees —and yet it is happy. The stars are twinkling in the sky, the rivers are flowing blissfully, the branches of the trees are dancing in the wind, and the birds are bursting into song. You should ask yourself, 'Why, then, do I feel so miserable living in the midst of all this joyful celebration?'
"Ask the question, 'why,' repeatedly, and you will find the answer. The answer is that the flowers, stars, rivers, trees and birds do not have an ego; and, being egoless, nothing can hurt them. When you are egoless, you can only rejoice. Even occasions that would normally be painful are transformed into moments of joy."--Amma
Blessings. We call it dads Rose in memory of my late dad. This is the first image taken with my new iPhone 12. Really good camera. Going to be interesting.
The blessing of the Lord makes man rich and He adds no sorrows to it. Many millionaires in the US are of Jewish origin, hence the saying: where there’s a Jew, there’s a blessing. In Christ, we are more than a Jew–we are children of God. We are a blessed people! In God’s eyes His children are always rich, heirs of Christ! If we aren’t rich in cash today, we are in our Lord’s peace. If we don’t have properties, we’re rich just the same, for what’s Christ’s is ours too. His Father’s mansion up there will soon be our home! “I go to prepare a place for you,” Christ said. What richness will it be–not just in a billion years but through ETERNITY!The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

The Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
I snapped this one while the family and bridal party was praying over the bride. It was such a beautiful moment, and I don't see it at every wedding so I really appreciate the energy in the room when it happens and I'm there to see it ♥

My family has been such a blessing to me. I was remembering my grandparents today and composed this photo in honor of them. My grandmother loved to cook and bake. In the background is her cookie jar. The cook books are hers complete with notes that she jotted down on the recipes. My grandfather was a strawberry farmer. He wore straw hats while he worked and they always smelled of citronella. He had an elephant collection and this bank was his. He also loved to read and gave me books that I loved. A Girl of the Limberlost is just one. Together they had an antique store. The figurine of the girl cooking was one that my grandma gave to me.
Lastly, I've included a pin that was given out at a family reunion when I was a child. It shows the changes made to the family name since our ancestors came to America from Holland.
I have been having fun at trying out still life photography. Very challenging. This one I especially enjoyed since it brought back fond memories of people that loved me and influenced me in so many ways.
“They are not dead who live in lives they leave behind; In those whom they have blessed, they live a life again, And shall live, through the years, Eternal life, and grow each day more beautiful As time declares their good, Forgets the rest, and prove” Hugh Robert Orr
On November 17th a massive WIND STORM hit Spokane that crippled our entire City. Hurricane Force Winds and Power Outages to 186,000 people (yes that number is correct). We, personally were hit hard....No Power for 7 long days, and finally today (Day 14) we just got Internet and TV restored. A Massive Pine Tree snapped and fell on our car - no major damage to the car, but the tree is still in our yard and we have massive clean up work ahead of us. Businesses were shut down for LONG periods of time, taking a toll on Small Businesses - stores had run out of major things that people were needing and stocked up on. The antique store that I work for lost power for 5 days and it took a huge hit with a loss of sales for that many days. It was logged as the biggest storm ever to hit the State of Washington. I played with Blythe by candlelight, read books by candlelight and tried to keep warm. All I can say is "Count Your Blessings........"
