Elizabeth grew up in the countryside of Peru, grazing alpaca and loving to knit.
All she wanted in life was to attend school. But like so many in her community, Elizabeth was prohibited by her parents from further education. “Boys are students,” she was told. “Girls take care of livestock.”
In marriage she found the pattern repeating itself. Her husband went off to study, leaving Elizabeth alone and impoverished, struggling to take care of their young son.
With the help of Heifer, Elizabeth organized other mothers and formed a handicraft association to sell their knitting wares at the local market. The money helps support her family.
Bit by Bit is the story of a woman unwilling to be marginalized.
“There is no strength alone,” she says. “When many of us come together, then there is strength.”
And Elizabeth is staying true to her word, teaching her trade to the young girls of her community.

There is always a bit of nostalgia of the fine summer days when walking in a public park in the heart of winter. The park Tête d'Or in Lyon, is one the largest urban park in France (117 hectares, 290 acres). Located in the northern part of its 6th arrondissement, the park hosts the Botanical Garden with remarkable tropical green houses, as well as a lake on which boating takes place during the summer months. Due to its beauty, it receives a huge number of visitors over the summer; it is a frequent destination for joggers and cyclists, not there in this afternoon of January 2025.
I brought along my year-1976 Olympus OM-1 MD film SLR that is one of my preferred camera of my collection (see bellow for details). The camera was equipped of its standard lens G.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.4 f=50 mm and loaded with a Rollei RPX 400 film which is the former formula of the Agfa APX 400. I like this film giving a large tone range and quite good image densities even in low light.
Except for the last five frames done at night, the lens was fitted with a generic yellow 49mm screwed filter. The light metering was done through the lens (TTL) using the camera built in lightmeter and/or my external lightmeter Minolta Autometer III with the 10° viewer for selective metering privileging the shadows zones or with the integrating white dome for incident-light metering. The weather was mostly covered with intermittent misty sun and ±1°C.

After completion the film was rewound and processed using 350 mL of Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developer prepared at the dilution 1+25 for 12min30 at 20°C.
Digitizing was made using a Sony A7 camera (ILCE-7, 24MP) fitted to a Minolta Auto Bellows III with the Minolta slide duplication accessory and Minolta Macro Bellow lens 1:3.5 f=50mm. The light source was a LED panel CineStill Cine-lite.
The RAW files obtained were inverted within the latest version available of Adobe Lightroom Classic (version 14.1.1) and edited to the final jpeg pictures without intermediate file. They are presented either as printer files with a frame or the full size JPEG's together with some documentary smartphone color pictures.

About the camera :
My Olympus OM-1 MD was purchased from a local photography shop in Lyon, France, May 31, 2022.
Olympus OM-1 MD was commercially available from 1974 to 1978 and represented the fully mechanical SLR of a new class ("miniature SLR's") , smaller and lighter than any other SLR's of that time. It prefigured the size of most of the SLR's of the 80's.
The kit included the normal lens G.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.4 f=50 mm in perfect condition, a Zuiko Auto-Zoom 1:4 f=75-150 mm with Olympus original rigid case, a Sigma Tele-Macro x2 converter, a small flash Olympus PE200 (GN 14 at 100 ISO) with case, A Crystal Titanium x 0.48 wide-angle converter (still never tested), and several 49 mm filters.
This specific OM-1 MD was constructed in Jan. 1976 according to the printed reference "ス ("su ") 615" on the back of the film plate.
The MF no 831 at the right huddling with a MF no 34 6 inch brace at the top and a MF no 182 at the left.
And exactly why do I like the Millers Falls braces?
Well, I have never seen or tried a North Bros Yankee brace, which seems all the rage. But I have experience of some 30 various bit brace models and I must say the MF ones have general been top notch. I'm not biased, I do like a good Stanley or a German made Flott or a Pexto. And there's no reason to compare, because all of these and several others made some very good braces. All I can say is that I have yet so see a Millers Falls brace model of higher standard that would have let me down. They were very solid, exactly machined and extremely durable.
New doll bits drying in the sun! Note to self...stand down wind of spray can! My glasses are now covered with yellow spots!
This is auto It dries hard, fills in the dents, is then sanded and sprayed with auto enamel which dries rock hard and stops the doll dissolving when I make the mould!

Lassie & a little girl were both playing with this ball at a recent family gathering. She had a blast playing keep away with the dog. Lassie would chase her to get the ball and she would giggle and run. I was lucky to catch this, it happened so fast. It was real bright and I had to tone down the shadow some to see her expression, so I have done some photo shop work on this one. I usually like to keep my photos as photo shop free as possible, but this one was too cute to pass up. Taken July 2008
Today was my last therapy appointment for a bit. My therapist is kinda amazing, but I hope to get a car this week or next and then take some time away.
She said a lot of things today - that I'm a fighter, that I'm incredibly in tune with my emotions, that, "you are just yourself." Things that I didn't think were so abnormal, but she pointed out how they can be. Another thing she said today was that she noticed, even the first time I walked in, that I had a fire inside me - a spark, and that each week, it's just grown.
Here's to growth.

A bit different from the earlier photo, the trees in the background are still there but otherwise to a casual glance, nothing else is there. The trackbed i think was filled in with the rubble from the demolished building or at an earlier date, levelled over when the building was used by the council. The rubble remains are to the left of this picture which would be directly in the middle of the bridge,

These bits were ace. Walking over these wooden bridges, where thousands of hobnailed boots had walked before was good fun.

New Model Army - Courage
Whetley Mills were established by Alfred and Henry Illingworth in July 1865. The mills were designed by the Bradfordian architects Milnes & France and were built to accomodate the rapidly growing worsted spinning business of Daniel Illingworth and Sons. By the 1890s the mill complex was the largest in Bradford and employed around 1000 people.
Initially I was disappointed with this place. I am spoiled living in the north. These sorts of places are everywhere, lying empty. I've seen millions of them, and much of the mill floors are the same. Different colours of peeling paint, but that is pretty much it. However, it's when you get to the other buildings that things take on a new feel, and there are different places to see.
