I always like to strive for something pleasing about an image. Sometimes it's the clarity, or the intimacy, and sometimes it's the magical feeling. It's important to have something stand out. I'm not always successful at that but I usually try!

Clipped wings, I was a broken thing

Had a voice, had a voice but I could not sing

You would wind me down

I struggled on the ground, oh

So lost, the line had been crossed

Had a voice, had a voice but I could not talk

You held me down

I struggle to fly now, oh

The verdin is a common sight, and even more common sound, here in the Valley of the Sun. They the only representative of the Old World Remizidae family of birds here in North America. Both the male and the female participate in nest building, with the male building the exterior while the female does the interior decorating. According the the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, one pair of verdins in Arizona was observed building 11 nests in one year.

This bird flew into a fogged panel and left the outline in a previous image I posted, fortunately after 15 minutes it flew away

As the sun was setting those colors looked beautiful,

I am in front of the waterfall looking at the birdhouse,

Soon they will be tenants there,

I don't take photographs of birds because this genre of photography is very specialised, and I am not good enough at it. However, whilst minding my own business at Palm Beach the other day - walking along the track behind the sand dunes - this large bird - a kookaburra - descended from somewhere and sat on the fence right in front of me. He would not move. So I thought well I may as well put him on Flickr.

So - here he is. Kookaburra at Palm Beach, Sydney. Unexpected.

I think he was chased by a crow and fell from the nest. In the corner of the stairs, the figure threatening to the camera was very irritating and waited for the parent bird, but it did not appear. After that, I could only let it escape into the undergrowth, but I hope it will grow up safely.

A variety of heliconia or false bird of paradise. The central highlands of Colombia is a cloud forest environment; they grow some of the finest coffee in the world, but it also offers one of the most diverse ecosystems. Every type of tropical plant that likes moist conditions will thrive here.

These birds are not very popular as they lay eggs into the nests of other birds. I was taken aback by this individual and needed help from the Merlin App and the Macaulay images for identification. The plumage pattern is striking so thought it would be of interest to post here. Seen near Nutter's Battery, Central Park, New York

Always a delight to see so many birds arrive again -- over 30 different varieties now: Baltimore Orioles, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Yellow Warblers and Indigo Buntings. . .sorry to have been out of touch with everyone the last month, but will soon be more active again.
