Scaled Quail are game birds found in the New World, which have became rather rare due to habitat destruction and hunting.
This isn't the quail *I* grew up with...but a Texas variety.
Getting set for some good close ups and this popped up... I love taking photographs of birds period...
Taken just out side my home in Cochin. There were a lot of insects on the ground - and they were taking off one by one - it was a buffet for the birds - and my cats. Took a lot of photos that day - this was one of the best among them.
Also, this is the first image that I'm publishing that I've taken with my new camera - a Sony A6000(mirrorless). Very excited with it.
Those black dots you see in the trees are birds and bird nests. There must be thousands of them. Each year, the migratory birds would stop by and nest in Tommy Thompson Park, which is one of the largest migratory birding grounds in North America. In the early mornings, the sound from the birds can be deafeningly loud if you are close by.
One of a series of illustrations of birds in the church of St Mary, Clipsham, Rutland. The glass is clearly medieval and is closely related, I feel, to similar work in the Zouche Chapel of York Minster. In 1337 William la Zouche(later Archbishop of York) co-founded with Roger la Zouche, a chantry chapel of St Nicholas in the church of Clipsham. Although the chapel did not survive the Dissolution, the advowson belonged to the lords of the manor and is mentioned in later documents of sale.
This particular illustration ( possibly a jay?) is similar to others at York. Also see www.flickr.com/photos/8118630@N08/5217415919/ and www.flickr.com/photos/8118630@N08/5926549330/
It's not often we have a raven drop by. The little birds took to the bushes and hid while it sat on a neighbor's roof.
seen a massive flock of birds on bike ride home from work and couldn't help myself but chuck my bike in a ditch and take some photos :)
