This lovely male great spotted woodpecker is a regular visitor and duly turned up on time for the annual Big Garden Birdwatch. I did mine today as the sun was out and the feeders were full. Tomorrow looks less inviting.

I got 17 species and 39 birds today; did any of my Flickr friends take part and if so how did you get on? Did anyone see anything exotic?

Day 329/366 of Project 365 (Tuesday, 2020 November 24 - 198th consecutive daily photo): Affectionally known as birdwatching when I took up the hobby oh so many years ago, those who engage in the sport have since adopted the more masculine-sounding term birder.

By chance, this was photographed from the back deck on the morning of our first serious snowfall of the season.

Captured this with three RAW shots at -2..0..+2 EV. Digital blending in Photoshop CS6. Increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Lens Effect using Diffusion filter to create this soft look.

Another one from my archive. The Bronze Cranes at The Portland Japanese Garden in Autumn. This was captured in the fall of 2014. Going to miss shooting the Japanese Garden in the Fall this year, since it'll be closed for expansion project from September 8 through March 2016. Have a great weekend everyone!

This was taken on my first visit to the beautiful island of Enlli ( Bardsey Island ) situated off the tip of Penrhyn Llyn ( Llyn Peninsula ) Gwynedd, North Wales. It's at the north western end of the island with Mynydd Mawr on the tip of the Llyn Peninsula in the background behind one of the stone built hides, this was the first morning of our visit. There was high wind and rough seas on the day we crossed and it was late afternoon by the time the boatman decided we could attempt a crossing, that was to be the last boat in or out for the whole week. As a result of the conditions it turned out to be a very good week for seawatching, at times there were many thousands of birds every hour passing offshore on their autumn migration. Sitting in the hide and looking out to sea marvelling upon the spectacle unfolding in front of us was an unforgettable experience.
