This is Big Boy the crow. He's been coming around for a couple of months now with his mate. She is very shy but he has become quite friendly. We live in a very rural location so wildlife is very wild so I'm thrilled to have him be a part of my life everyday. Even if he does start cawing right outside my bedroom window at 5am every morning.

Developing: Kodak HC-110, dilution H, for 10 minutes.
This film, which expired when I was a child, never fails to impress. Some of the photos came out spotty, but most were of good quality.

At 325m above the Deadvlei pan the scale of the giant sand dune named Big Daddy is something amazing to behold.
This is the most abundant of 12 species of bats found in Canada. However, seeing one flying in broad day light was something. These are two of 5 frames I managed to get of it before the Barn Swallows chased it away. They are big but certainly not as big as an Indian Flying Fox that I saw early last year when I was in India. Ausgereifte Technik mit neuem Design und neuem Big X 770
Mit dem Big X 770 stellt Krone auf der Agritechnica ein neues Mitglied der Feldhäcksler-Familie vor. Der neue Häcksler ist mit einem MAN V8-Motor ausgerüstet; er verfügt über 16,16 l Hubraum und 775 PS (kW 570). Dank seines „runden“, ergonomischen Designs erinnert er optisch an die jüngsten Krone Häcksler der Baureihen Big X 480/580. Bei der Konzeptionierung stand nicht nur die Optik im Vordergrund, sondern auch eine weitere Optimierung der Sicherheit. So wurde z.B. die Übersichtlichkeit der Maschine verbessert, zusätzliche Blinker im Kotflügel integriert und der Aufstieg zur Kabine mit einem zusätzlichen Tritt versehen. Zudem wird der Big X 770 (ebenso wie die Typen 600, 700, 850 und 1100) serienmäßig mit einer Häckseltrommelbremse ausgestattet, welche die Trommel in weniger als 10 Sekunden aus voller Drehzahl abbremst.
Beim Innenleben des Häckslers greift Krone auf ausgereifte Features zurück, so z.B. auf PowerSplit. PowerSplit ist ein intelligentes elektronisches Motorleistungsmanagement zur automatischen Anpassung an den aktuellen Leistungsbedarf. So können die Common-Rail-Motoren je nach Einsatz mit verschiedenen Maschinenleistungen gefahren werden.
Für den Big X 770 sowie für die Modelle 600, 700, 850 und 1100 bietet Krone erstmalig auch die MaxFlow Häckseltrommel als Variante an. Die MaxFlow Trommel ist wahlweise mit 20, 28 und 36 Messern erhältlich und eignet sich somit für alle Einsatzbedingungen. Die neue Anordnung der Messer unterhalb der Messerhalter steht für einen vergrößerten Förderraum, für mehr Durchsatz und für eine vorbildliche Laufruhe auch bei hohen Häcksellängen. Zudem dient die Anschraubleiste vom Messer zusätzlich als Verschleißschutz für den Trommelkörper. Darüber hinaus bietet Krone auch spezielle Biogastrommeln mit 40 bzw. 48 Messern (48 Messer nur für Big X 850/1100) als Spezialtrommeln für kurze Schnittlängen (40 Messer: 2,5 – 15 mm, 48 Messer: 2,0 – 12,0) an. Ebenfalls praxisgerecht ist die Vielfalt beim CornConditioner; als neue Variante ist ein CornConditioner mit 105 Zähnen erhältlich, der auch bei Häcksellängen ab 20 mm für eine vorbildliche Kornaufbereitung steht.
Ebenfalls ab sofort für die Baureihen Big X 600, 700, 770, 850, 1100 erhältlich ist die Wurfweitenverstellung StreamControl. Damit wird die Wurfweite des Ernteguts durch eine schwenkbare Klappe in der Rückwand des Wurfbeschleunigers von der Fahrerkabine aus eingestellt. Wird die Wurfweite „Kurz“ gewählt, hat das Erntegut wenig Kontakt mit dem Wurfbeschleuniger. Diese kraftstoffsparende Funktion empfiehlt sich bei normalem Häckselbetrieb, wenn der Transportwagen neben dem Feldhäcksler fährt. Bei der Wurfweite „Mittel/Weit“ hat das Erntegut mehr bzw. vollen Kontakt mit dem Wurfbeschleuniger; diese Funktion wählt der Fahrer z.B. beim Anhäckseln, wenn der Transportwagen hinter dem Feldhäcksler läuft.
Als weitere Optionen bietet Krone auch LED-Beleuchtungen für alle Arbeitsscheinwerfer und als Aufstiegsbeleuchtung an. Ebenso ist eine geregelte Siliermittelanlage inkl. Tank (Füllvolumen 300 l) erhältlich. Die Siliermittelanlage wird vom Fahrer bequem über das Terminal gesteuert. Bei der Bereifung ist zusätzlich die Version 710/70 R42 (vorne), 620/70 R30 (hinten) erhältlich; der große Reifendurchmesser bewirkt eine hohe Kontaktfläche für mehr Grip und gleichzeitig eine hohe Bodenfreiheit. Ebenfalls optional ist das neue Kamerasystem für die Rückfahr- und Auswurfbogenkamera, welches die Arbeit nicht nur sicherer macht, sondern auch deutlich erleichtert. Die Auswurfbögen wurden übrigens auch neu designt; neu im Programm ist zudem die klappbare Auswurfbogenverlängerung (für 12 reihiges Maisgebiss). Für eine einfachere Bedienung rüstet Krone den Big X ab sofort auch mit einem 10 Zoll-Terminal aus; dank der größeren Darstellung kann der Fahrer alle Funktionen jetzt noch besser überwachen.

Sunset on 26-October. The view towards Wong Wiang Yai, lit. the "big [traffic] circle". Bangkok sunsets can be madly fantastic, partly due to scattering caused by poor air quality.

The 64m high Buddha statue visible in the distance a few km away was built since approx 2019 and completed around 2021. On 2 occasions every year the sun passes right behind in this view. I've been here previously in Feb-2023, and in July 2020 i also published a shot of the Buddha itself when it was still under construction, please feel free to check my Bangkok album.

At present the Buddha's head is surrounded by scaffolding with a standard green plastic sheeting as cover. During day time it obscures the shape of the sculpture, but with the setting sun directly behind it adds a remarkable quality.

Interestingly, the dictionary shows the phrase 'Wong Wiang' could also mean "compass", but that might imply a meaning not intended at time of shooting; however, it did influence the processing. I couldn't help but think about how sometimes we seem to rush past so many things on our journey, with so many things getting ever more colourful and inventive in their attention (and wallet) grabbing attempts, but then, where is it all heading and leading to, is there an exit from the big circle or does it keep going round and round?

Anyhow, at the time of shooting I was aiming to do some more Bangkok cityscapes again and 'just' hoping to capture one of these intense sunsets in a great location, and hit very lucky indeed on that day :)

2024 is coming to an end, and I for one am glad to see it in my rearview mirror. One of the bright spots this year was finding this big momma toad hanging out in the basin of our River Birch tree. Growing up only a half a block from where I currently live, I could find toads, frogs, snakes and all of the creepy crawly creatures a boy could use to torment his sisters. When we moved in some twenty plus years ago, not so much.
But it is getting better. During the summer nights, bats are flying overhead and the toads are hoping in front of us during our evening walks. A month ago, Luna stopped dead in her tracks as an owl did a fly by.

We are standing on a high hill in the evening, looking down on California Highway 1 as it curves along the Pacific coast of the Big Sur area.
I'm going to conclude this series from England for now as I shall be taking a break from Flickr.
Luna was our last dog sit of the summer. She was a young black labrador full of beans and very affectionate! She took to us straight away. We were lucky to be staying right in the heart of the countryside which made for nice easy dog walks
