Big Ears the fox looks up at a helicopter. There were many helicopters flying low this past week, rattling the foundations of my house, and shattering what is left of my nerves. These are sad times. No child is born a racist, or born to hate. Our world needs more love, compassion and kindness. We have to stop hating and killing each other or we will all perish.

Big Ears the fox says, Being Kind is Always the Right Thing To Do!

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

The Wuppertal Zoo was opened in 1881 by the "Zoologischer Garten" public limited company in what was then the city of Elberfeld and offered 34 animals to watch, including a bear and a pair of wolves. The zoo, which has been run by the city of Wuppertal since 1937, now covers 24 hectares and has around 5,000 animals. In terms of landscape, it is one of the most beautiful in Germany and impresses with extensive meadow areas, high slopes and flat valley hollows.

Big Sur is a rugged stretch of California’s central coast between Carmel and San Simeon. Bordered to the east by the Santa Lucia Mountains and the west by the Pacific Ocean, it’s traversed by narrow, 2-lane State Route 1, known for winding turns, seaside cliffs and views of the often-misty coastline. The sparsely populated region has numerous state parks for hiking, camping and beachcombing.

This is a black-crowned night heron just hanging out, people watching. I call him Big Daddy, because that's what popped into my head

I had sat on the stone wall overhanging the fast flowing River Shiel, for about ten minutes, silently and completely still. I knew there were some red deer grazing about quarter of a mile upstream, and now that dawn was arriving they would have to find their way back home. Sooner or later some would come my way. But I had no idea how close they had got to me through the boggy thickets, so that when two stags leapt into the river nearby I jumped out of my skin, assuming some enormous fish was thrashing about in the shallows below me. But the light and my readiness was poor and whilst I fired off a few shots, you just can't get decent shots under those circumstances.

It's nice to see the stags back. For months they have been missing, leaving the hinds and calves to forage with their own herds. A gamekeeper told me he thought males and females had their own forests during the summer months, the stags 20 miles down the loch in the forests around Glenfinnan, whilst the females stayed around here at the westerm end of Loch Shiel.
