Rocky Mountain National Park, May 18, 2014.

A cinnamon-colored black bear eyes the photographer from across the Big Thompson River in Estes Park. We saw this bear while grabbing lunch at "Coffee on the Rocks." He was exploring the far shore, and then surprised me as I went upstream to find him again. I'd lost sight of him but then realized that he was in the river near my side, but swiming back the other way! So he must have seen me coming and went back across to the far shore. So I almost had a much closer-than-desired encounter! This is him looking back at me, rather sheepishly, from the far bank.
