Some pretty rad ice formations in the Big Thompson River this morning. Sadly there wasn't a single cloud due west, but I think this foreground more than makes up for it. Definitely will have to get back to this spot with a fiery sky before it all melts!

This still pool forms as the Big Thompson River winds alongside the trail near the Fern Lake Trailhead on its way to Moraine Park and beyond.

Fern Lake Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Near the beginning of a final hike into the Odessa Gorge, this time climbing from the bottom of the gorge upward to Odessa Lake. The Fern Lake Trail initially follows the Big Thompson River. The Pool is located 1.7 miles from the trailhead. Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

There is a wonderful little river walk along the Big Thompson River in Estes Park, Colorado. When we were there in May, it even snowed a bit!
Riffles in the Big Thompson River where it flows through the meadow in Moraine Park. The Big Thompson begins in RMNP and flows 78 miles before merging with the South Platte River. You could walk across it here, but further downstream it becomes a rushing river that you would not want to try to cross.
This is dedicated to my Grandmother who's birthday was yesterday. She would have been 105...she was a very special person in my life...

As you can probably guess from the cloud shapes, the wind was howling when I shot this one, I had to push the tripod into the ground and hold it.
My favorite valley in Colorado, Moraine park is easy to get to from the Estes Park entrance of the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Restaurants were busy in downtown Estes Park but only so much seating. Many stores back up to the river and this particular seating area went all the way down to the river.
which runs along the backside of many of the businesses in downtown Estes Park. A trail behind the buildings meanders along it.
