Bathed in a tropical light that seems born of another world, Richard and Haru look at one another as if they already remember each other. He, crowned as a pharaoh, carries the memory of a kingdom written in stone and sun. She, a princess from distant lands, holds in her gaze the whisper of spices, sacred rivers, and ancient promises.
Between them there are no words, only that silence filled with tenderness that crosses borders, lifetimes, and eras. Time bends around them, unable to pull them apart. Standing before the Viaur railway viaduct, I wanted to move beyond engineering prowess to reveal the dream woven into steel. By framing the structure diagonally and stripping away all context, reducing the scene to black and white, I sought to exalt the raw power of metal, the complex interplay of bracings, and the graphic tension of a suspended work.
My intention is to invite the viewer to see this giant not as a bridge, but as calligraphy traced across the sky—a monumental signature in lines and rhythms, of light and shadow. In this abstraction, matter becomes drawing, and technique transforms into poetry.
Through this gaze, I celebrate the essential: the human gift for shaping—and imagining—the landscape. The Viaur, in this frame, is a symbolic passageway: it joins the force of engineering with the creative breath of the imagination, bridging earth and idea, utility and art.
I have been wanting to use that title for a long time. On our way from the Shuswap to Vancouver we made a stop in the town of Hope. Movie goers may know that the Stallone movie, "Rambo - First Blood" was filmed (yes filmed) there in 1982. When I told my wife she was most unimpressed.
We stopped at a rest area where only one other vehicle was parked. We used the washroom after our multi hour drive and then peared at the outdoor map of the area. It was on the wall of a roofed open walled hut the size of a garage. From there I could see the mountains beyond. I raced for my camera and took a few shots only to discover each was underexposed. So, I started working on my exposure and composition while leaning on a pillar for support. 20 minutes later I was still enjoying the cloud that was draping itself over the mountain creating a different image every other second.
A photographer could hunt for such an opportunity and not find anything. So when my wife said we should go, although I knew she was right, it was with both hesitation and elation that we drove off.

The twin lights of Thacher Island and four other regional lighthouses are always there, but I haven't shot a photo of any of them for months. This time, the North Tower, a mile offshore, serves as a backdrop to a tree silhouette.

This is an 84 shot panorama of the Milky Way above North Dandalup Dam in Western Australia. The image covers approximately 200 degrees of the night sky, stretching from just past east on the left side to west on the right. The two prominent sources of light pollution are from Pinjarra, a small town to the south west and a nearby mining operation to the south east. It's interesting to see the different colours of light pollution - orange from sodium street lights in Pinjarra and blue from the LED lighting at the mine site. I'm not sure if this is a result of the Hoya filter I used but I kind of like the two tone effect on the panorama as a whole.
Anyway, prominent as always are the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds just above Pinjarra. The filter is good for highlighting H-Alpha nebula such as the Carina Nebula, seen here almost directly above the LMC.
I don't normally give my photos creative titles but I couldn't help myself with this one, the inspiration coming from the road that appears to go into infinity and, uh...beyond I guess!

Sycamore trees were held to be sacred in Ancient Egypt and are the first trees represented in Ancient Art.
