A break in the clouds reveals a wonderful winter snowscape.

This Greenhouse was built between 1892 and 1905 by the architect Alfonse Balat for King Leopold II. It has the shape of a church. The iron construction elements are decorated with Art Nouveau floral motifs. The central part is dug with three meter deep pits (1945 and 1987) to accommodate fan palms that have grown too big.

Temps have dropped significantly but we’re still getting out to hike on most days. I love my nature therapy!

Kirkgate Lane runs between the villages of Appleton le moors and Spaunton with a branch to Lastingham in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, England.

The sun was beginning to disappear as the dark clouds encroached

The question usually is what is around the bend, well, located just to the north of the village of Appleton Le Moors on the western side of Kirkgate Lane is High Cross. All that remains is the large sandstone base and the remains of the shaft. Pastscape whose full description can be found Pastscape Monument No. 60186 surmise because of the large base the original cross may have stood some 3m high. It will have been a wayside cross marking the route to Lastingham where there has been a Christian place of worship ever since King Ethelwald of Deira founded a monastery there in 654AD.

The base is not very photogenic

Ships to Shore 2017 - Steveston

One of the world’s largest tall ships, the Kaiwo Maru made a special guest appearance to Garry Point Park in Steveston, BC in honour of Canada's 150th anniversary.

Built in 1989, this majestic tall ship sailing from Japan is 361 feet in length and has over 29,000 square feet in sails.

Also known as the 'King of the Sea'.

Kaiwo Maru is a Japanese four-masted training barque tall ship.

She was built in 1989 to replace a 1930 ship of the same name.

The Ships to Shore celebration attracted thousands upon thousands of people, anxious to catch what possibly could be a once in a lifetime glimpse of this magnificent sailing ship.

In the background there were nautical displays, carnival activities, food concessions, fireworks and much more...

As night fell, a live band drew and captivated a large audience of people.....truthfully, none of that seemed to distract myself nor many other dedicated photographers..

I know I couldn't 'steer clear' (so to speak) from this extraordinary ship's side, nor could I afford wasting one precious moment of what night fall was offering.

The dimming sky provided ongoing colour and light photog opportunities that enhanced the magic of this fine lady and her scenic surroundings.

A sight to 'sea'

Thank you very much for all Comments and Faves...

Taken in March 2016, this sums up why I take everyday scenes. So much has changed in a fairly short time. The street lamps have been changed to LED lighting. Any of the concrete railings left have been changed to a thinner metal. They are forever being hit by vehicles - last time I went down there, there was temporary fencing over two sections. The big change is the Council built flats in the background which have gone to be replaced by modern (and expensive) replacements. Finally the buses here on Route 313 have gone to South London and it's now operated by double-deck New Routemasters.
