Eastern Chipmunk.

Between 8 1/2 to 11 3/4 inches in length. Reddish brown above with a white belly. 1 white stripe bordered by 2 black stripes on sides ending at the rump. 2 white stripes on back much thinner than side stripes. Dark center stripe down the back. Pale facial stripes above and below the eyes. Tail brown on tip and edged with black. Prominent ears.

The Eastern Chipmunk's habitat includes open deciduous woodlands, forest edges, brushy areas, bushes and stone walls in cemeteries and around houses.

They range from southeastern Canada and the north-eastern U.S. east from North Dakota and eastern Oklahoma and south to Missisippi, northwest Carolina and Virginia.

A detour around a closed bridge brought me down another dirt road and this delightful farm. Love the rusty and all metal outbuildings - the horses seemed to want to get their meal in before those nasty clouds opened up.

I was surprised by the exquisite expression on his face and the details, when I saw this statue the first time. Do you notice the little face on top of his head?, like a diadem ;-))

Walking the Nakasendo trail in the Kiso Valley (Japan) between Yabuhara and Narai via Torii Pass.

This mountain pass was named “Torii” (Shinto shrine gate) because a prominent local samurai warrior in 15th century prayed to Mt. Ontake for victory in a battle against another clan. After winning the battle, he built this torii gate and Ontake Shrine to thank the spirit of the mountain.

Deze bessen niet rauw eten, eerst koken. Ze zijn eetbaar maar zuur en bitter, na bevriezing zijn ze beter van smaak. Zaadjes verwijderen, die geven darmproblemen.

Do not eat these berries raw, cook them first. They are edible but sour and bitter, they taste better after freezing. Remove seeds, which cause intestinal problems.
