Back in the day, before retirement, one of the best things about holidays was the time off work without using up my annual leave. 4:41 p.m. meant 19 minutes to quitting time, and for many years it also meant I had the next 10 days or so off work. HMM and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

For this week's Macro Monday challenge: "Best with Holidays is"
Looks like my old fly reel needs a clean!
Reel is 4" diameter so, just over 2"/50mm seen here.
Best with Holidays is… enjoying a good coffee at home and planning the activities for the day! Exactly what I am doing when writing these words.... (and the coffee is great)

I love gingerbread decorations at Christmas time. This ornament came from Liberty Craftworks at Greenfield Village/The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.
The holidays are a celebration of many things including family, cooking and food. I have selected a few of the more unusual spices, fruits and utensils to cook with.

Label from a bottle of Electric Reindeer wine, cropped to 3". This wine is a holiday tradition and not bad tasting (but then I'm not a connoisseur :-).
We have this little metallic snowman with a wire nose (which is about 3/4 inch long for context). He's a bit weird looking but I love him. I know it's Christmas when he is in place looking over our tree. HMM!
We added an N Scale train to the Christmas Village this year. It's hard to beat a Christmas Train!
Another 80 megapixel photo.
Just be careful to not eat too much! (Or get ready to hit the gym!)
Macro Mondays - 12/23/19 - "Best with Holidays is…"
Taken for group Macro Mondays theme 'Best with Holidays is...'
I like blue sky with sun and being by water - summer holidays. At the moment it is dull grey and very wet. However at Christmas time, the metal sleigh comes out and it's filled with chocolates. Foil-wrapped Chocolate Santas and Chocolate money.
A very simple set up for this shot, it was taken in the dark lit with two yellow LED lights.
Peace on Earth... best at any time of the year!
On a more mundane level, this measures about 2 x 2 inches.
We don't usually put baby Jesus in the crib until after midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. It is very much a family tradition which signals the start of the holiday celebrations,
MM theme´s of the week is #bestwithholidaysis#
I clearly remember when my grandad used to give to us all a present inside and envelop. Traditions still today are a reality at home and we all are looking forward for that day, on the 25th december exactly.

Wikipedia : Pandoro is a traditional Italian sweet bread, most popular around Christmas and New Year. Typically a Veronese product, pandoro is traditionally shaped like a frustum with an eight-pointed star section. It is often served dusted with vanilla-scented icing sugar made to resemble the snowy peaks of the Italian Alps during Christmas.

A Macro Mondays submission on the topic "Best with holidays is...". This is a beach towel, which is my main equipment for a holiday (especially at Christmas, here in Australia). Seen extreme closeup, the towels texture resembles ocean waves.
HMM and a very happy little festive season to all Macro Mondayers!
Happy Macro Mondays, and Happy Holidays to all!
For this week’s theme “Best with Holidays…” I have a detail shot of a set of blocks. A family favorite, this is an old toy that for some reason is usually sitting on the same cabinet with the Nativity set at our house.
My 16 year old son is the typical, bored-about-everything teenager. But he was really bummed when I couldn't find a gingerbread house decorating kit so I managed to find this gingerbread man for him. So, for me, the best thing about the holidays is having my kids become kids again.
Best about Holidays are the memories made with family, traditions, traditional foods, gifts that are kept for a lifetime (such as decorations made/given by my sons, and students). Of course the best part is the time to sit and reflect the meaning of Christmas or Chanakkah, or Kwanza, .... MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATE OR VISIT MACRO MONDAYS! Peace be with you.
I love to collect and display Nativity items. They remind me of our travels. Some items such as the one in this photo, remind me of my ancestral roots.
This 'ornament' comes from Sicily, it is a ceramic Nativity Scene inside an amphora/wine bottle/oil bottle/..... It is a common touristy item found in Ceramic Shops in Sicily..

One for Macro Mondays: "Best with Holidays is..." ...playing games.
This childhood tradition came back to us about 6 or 7 years ago, when we had a lengthy power cut after Alex came home from university for the Christmas holidays.
We lit a fire, and the three of us played games all evening.
I wanted to show the gears at the start of the game, which set the train of events off in order to catch a mouse. The game was mine from 50+ years ago.
Blue Mouse can just be seen trapped in the cage in the background.
Each gear/cog is 2.5" across.

the barbie cookie cutter is under an inch and the house is just under 2 inches long from front to back.
Macro Mondays - The Best with Holidays is .... all sorts.
When the kids go away on their "exotic" holidays they return with small souvenirs for their Mum. Each one is different and depends on location. These for example are Jamaica, Memphis (Peabody Duck), and Venice. I wonder if there is a competition on who brings back the smallest or tackiest. They may be small but are big on memories.
I just threw in some Christmas lights for good measure 🎄
My wife always makes a wreath for our door at the holidays. This is a 2"/50mm section of this year's edition.
Family will be arriving for the holidays. The puzzle is awaiting for assembling with the family. How rewarding to find a piece that fits! It's a time to be together and enjoy each other's company. Good conversations flow freely around the puzzle table. The border is DONE but there is a lot of nature, snow, nighttime sky, and a brightly lit church to fit together. Our oldest son sent this an early Christmas present. He says the church reminds him of the one his great-grandmother attended in Wilkes-Barre, PA!
