I think the best thing for me is the real feeling of connectedness with the past whilst accepting and even embracing the big changes that happen from one year to the next. But to feel this properly we also need constancy- small things that just stay the same from one year that we can notice, value and enjoy.
...but mostly I am a just a bit of a Christmas grump!

Best with Holidays is... Christmas Cookies, I bake and give them as gifts. My daughter baked the shortbread with the cherry on top and I baked the rest.

The tangled mess that comes from just stuffing the lights into a box. The next year you get the joy of checking that all the lights still work and untangling the string.

Small children and some adults too will always find little things on the beach that they consider treasures and just must bring home with them from their holidays. Two very diverse items here both from over 40 years ago. The very worn piece of wood was scavenged from a Welsh beach while the delightful shell M picked up from one in Australia. Two treasures now united on a piece of glass paper that I took from my workshop.
Lit with a single lamp, slightly diffused with a piece of tissue paper and some fill-in lighting from the room lights.
Nothing complicated - trying to keep it simple!

Between the rain and wind, we had a brief stint where the temps were cold enough and wet enough to give us a dusting of snow. It added to the holiday feel of the lights on the deck. The holidays are always better with snow!

I don't particularly like the Holiday season very much but what I do like in this time of year are the numerous lights in the house, giving it a festive atmosphere.
This year we took out the collection of miniature mangers with nativity scenes. This particular one is app. 5 cm high and wide, the scene is carved and sandblasted in glass.
The picture was taken for Macro Mondays' theme "Best with Holidays is ..." In my case it is lights!

Dieses Thema hat mir erst einmal Kopfzerbrechen bereitet. Das Beste an Feiertagen ist für mich, dass ich morgens etwas länger im Bett liegen und den Tag geruhsam verbringen kann. Aber wie lässt sich so etwas in Macro umsetzen? Und dann fiel mir der Filmsong "Lazy" von Marilyn Monroe ein, den ich auf einer alten LP habe. Dazu eine sich wohlig streckende kleine Katzenfigur (ein Hoch auf die Sammelleidenschaft!) und ich hatte mein Motiv für "Macro Mondays".
Ich wünsche euch allen einen "Happy Macro Monday" und entspannte Weihnachtsfeiertage.
This topic gave me a headache at first. The best thing about holidays for me is that I can stay in bed a little bit longer in the morning and spend the day more relaxing. But how can something like this be implemented in Macro? And then I thought of the movie song "Lazy" by Marilyn Monroe, which I have on an old LP. In addition, a comfortably stretching little cat figure (cheers for collecting!) And I had my motive for "Macro Mondays".
I wish you all a "Happy Macro Monday" and a relaxed Christmas holiday.
Back in the day, before retirement, one of the best things about holidays was the time off work without using up my annual leave. 4:41 p.m. meant 19 minutes to quitting time, and for many years it also meant I had the next 10 days or so off work. HMM and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
