I know, it´s a kind of a postcard shot (sorry...), nevertheless a "must have" ...
Almost a century after its archaeological discovery and thanks to recent studies of sixteenth century archival documents, there are good arguments to suppose that the citadel of Machu Picchu was - like the pyramids of the pharaohs in Egypt or the tomb of the emperor Chin Shi Huan in China - the luxurious and well cared for mausoleum of the Inca Pachakuteq, founder and first emperor of Tawantinsuyu.

One of the most fascinating things on my trip through the desert was those stunning changings of colors and light reflecting in the sanddunes inbetween the days....

This is the first bed Shizandra has ever had. Since she's older I knew her bones would appreciate something soft and warm, so I got her the best I could find. I like that the edges surround her, they make good pillows.

This was a lovely dried up plant that I saw a few times along the trail up Table Rock. Even though it's dead(?), I still think it looks beautiful. My mom and sister kept telling me that "This is NOT a picture taking hike!" Although they are very are now glad to have the pictures... :)
Happy New Year to all of you ! I spent New Years Eve in the Sahara desert and had an unforgettable time there !

Does anyone know what kind of butterfly this might be? I´ve got no idea. Took the picture in Piedmonte/Italy. Thanks you nondesigner59, must be a burnet moth, searched for it and found some infos about this catchy colored insect:
Six-spot burnets Zygaena filipendulae are day flying moths. The six red spots on each of the moths greenish-black fore-wings are a warning to predators the moth is poisonous. See also here: www.naturfoto-cz.de/burnet-moths.html
Pretty good curry paste... but I suspect it has MSG, even if it doesn't say so on the ingredients list!
The chicken curry I made was quite good.

After watching Poh's Kitchen, Julia was rather intrigued by the Black Beef Curry. Perhaps the tomatoes we used were too big, but our result was more like a deep red, tomatoey curry, rather than black. Tasted pretty good though!
The curry leaves added a nice nutty, spicy flavour, and we also added 2 Kaffir Lime Leaves for an extra zing, rendang-style. Next time, maybe we'll add some cinnamon or cassia sticks as well.

The A1 Mountain Globe/A1 Best One curry paste was pretty good too. It's definitely earned a place in my pantry.
Although we had perfect support from friendly comrades, 21 dromedars on our Trip through the desert we had great pleasure in hiking around, slipping up and down the dunes...
