EXPLORE #474 OF August 23, 2012

Autumn nature in the Bykovo estate near Moscow. The white bench hints at the coming snowy winter.

I had to go back almost three years to find benches in the queue.

Some of the benches at Eldon Quarry silhouetted against the afterglow

One last pallet bench from the convalescent home. It was great for a sunny afternoon.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)

We are just back from a trip in our camper van taking in parts of Dorset, South Devon and Cornwall.

Here is the first of many from this couple of weeks, taken on Portland.

HBM!

My back yard, in Cavaillon, Provence.

I spotted this bench in Parham Manor and Garden in England. The ferns growing through the bench made for a delightful photo opportunity.

A bench made of wrought iron in the city park of Krasnogorsk. The lovers like her very much.

Guggenheim Museum, New York

Being buried in snow this weekend just made me think back to a warmer, sunnier time not too long ago.

A number of benches to sit down and enjoy the fall at the Garden Society of Gothenburg

Bench on the dike, Pellworm island

Happy Bench Monday! Found this at Unger's Trading Post in Sherwood, Oregon.

On the slopes of the Cairnwell, which sits in the heart of the Glenshee Ski Centre, this bench made of old skis looks out across the steep Scottish Highlands, towards Càrn a' Ghèoidh.

This trip sees me bagging 2 more Munro's. Carn Aosda, my 22nd Munro, stands at 917 meters (3008 feet), while The Cairnwell, my 23rd Munro, stands at 933 meters (3061 feet). They do both stand at the heart of the Glenshee Ski Development, so may be not a pretty or remote as some other Munro's.

Our neighbors' cute cat came for a visit. :)

Ohh, we've gone pink!

This bench is in a really odd place, tucked between an advertising board and a parking bay in town.

It was a boring brown one, then yesterday I noticed it had been painted.

Maybe someone wants people to use it!

.

I feel very lucky to have caught this shot.

Spring time, foliage not yet so full that the light is blocked.

The sun still far enough south to create slanting light in the morning.

Quite a few lines point toward the bench.

A frame of darker foliage encircling the bench like a vignette.

Very lucky indeed.

Happy Bench Monday.

Happy Bench Monday!

I haven't been on a photo outing in such a long time... I've been so busy here with my family, caterpillars and butterflies.... I had to search for a bench image!!

This was taken at my favorite place, Bayard Cutting Arboretum...

I hope you all enjoy the day and happy new week!!

Happy Bench Monday!

Lynn Chadwick: Couple on Seat

1984 | steel | Cabot Square (exterior)

Lynn Chadwick (1914-2003) began his career as an architectural draughtsman but after World War II he took up sculpture. Couple on Seat is one of his later works. He produced many pieces with figures in various positions, following in the tradition of sculptor Henry Moore.

Chadwick created a permanent exhibition of his work at his home at Lypiatt Park in Gloucestershire. An exhibition of his work was held in One Canada Square and Jubilee Park in 2004.

P.S. As of Saturday 24 February 2024, Canary Wharf’s loan of Couple on Seat by Lynn Chadwick has come to an end and the sculpture returned to the Chadwick estate. Two Men on a Bench by Giles Penny is now in its place.

Happy Bench Monday!

The trees have been decorated with lights for the Halloween events at the Gardens. : )

Whenever I take the grandkids to their Junior School I can’t help but notice these lonely benches at the junction of Crown and Trent Streets., Worksop in Nottinghamshire. They are always empty! Put in a ridiculous position, in the middle of an estate of low income senior citizens bungalows, they never appear to have anyone sitting there!

The old people usually sit in their gardens and avoid these benches. This is not the sort of neighbourhood where people are apt to take walks either.

Why the planners stick the benches in odd places like this is mystifying! Maybe it looked good on the original plans?

Benches at the Carmel Library courtyard. Library was not yet open.. normally a popular spot.

Happy Bench Monday

Happy Bench Monday ... thankfully this is not a scene we should be seeing anymore here in Baltimore for this season ... but you never know :)
