This is the first and only instance of this behaviour that I have observed. The moth is licking the honeydew exudate from the fulgorid, despite the presence of the ants which are doing the same thing. Not sure is this is something specific to this moth sp., if it's pure luck, or just a not very often described phenomenon. In any case I was happy to find and document it. Found during a night hike in kanuku mountains. For a greater selection of photos which include different angles and species ask by pm to be added to my friend's list.
Yesterday the tire flew off my minibus, I cut the head off a pit viper and I was banned from a commercial flight by associating with a narco-trafficker. Today I am bushwhacking through the jungle in the remote trail-less backwaters of Guyana, waist deep in water and praying to make it through the rest of the day alive. What will tomorrow bring? God only knows. The adventure starts here- pbertner.wordpress.com/.
Lots of activities during the "II Rose Fair", or "Roses de Roses, II Fira de la Rosa de Roses" in Roses. Demonstrations of craftsmanship such as baking bread, carpentry, tools manufacturing and shoemaking but also falconry.
The birds were tethered and didn't seem to mind the attention of the public and I got plenty of time to shoot the wonderful creatures (and their often quirky expressions/behaviour). Sometimes, the falconer would walk around with one of the birds on her arm.
Shooting was quite difficult due to the harsh sunlight in the background and the shade which the tent provided. I have deliberately overexposed most of the pictures, partly to compensate for lack of light on the subjects compared to the background, but also to get rid of most of the annoying and ugly details in the background.
In hindsight, in some of the pictures I should have stopped the lens down just a bit more, to get a little extra depth of field.

I got my pup back half an hour ago, i missed her so much this weekend! it´s all new to her too, so she is a bit confused and it shows in her behaviour. Or should i say misbehaviour...
Everytime i meet Kita after even a very short break, she re-evaluates our relationship and the whole pack and her own place in it. so i must be very firm with her when all i want to do is cuddle with her on the couch. that is not a good idea with this dog, she is so dominating and a bit of a hard-ass, it is best for her that i just show her her place when she comes back and ignore her for a while.
My ex told me that when he tried to leave Kita in his apartment for half an hour she started howling and banging against the front door, so he couldn´t go anywhere without the dog. I foresee problems there....i am the pack leader to Kita and she trusts me, everybody else has to work with her and gain the trust.
and i have a LOT to do with her, training-wise...
We are going out for a long walk later tonight and also early in the morning. it will be really good for me too.
sooc.
P.S. how do you spell that word, is it behavior or behaviour??? somebody help, please, i hate misspelling!
P.S. got it now, thanks to c&a!

Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, has officially opened a new café in Reddish for young people in a bid to cut crime and anti-social behaviour.
The drop-in style venue, at the Reddish Life Centre, opened in April and now sees more than 30 young people through the doors every Friday night. Young people were consulted on what they wanted in the café and the facilities include a pool table, table football, video games and a refreshment area.
The Chief Constable said: “Anti-social behaviour and youths hanging around are one of the main concerns that our communities tell us about. By providing facilities that young people want and by working with the Redeeming Our Communities (ROC) team we are providing a fun, safe environment for young people to meet up. The feedback from the café is extremely positive. By having regular attendance from police community support officers we are also breaking down many barriers with young people. Anti-social behaviour is one of our priorities and we will continue to work to reduce it and lessen the impact is has on peoples’ lives.’
Debra Green, Director and founder of Redeeming Our Communities said:
“The church is a huge untapped resource with many thousands of members who all share a commitment to serve people and communities and already deliver a vast range of community projects from youth work to the care of vulnerable people. This is a great time to be forging partnerships so that people of goodwill can work together towards a safer, kinder community. We have found working with Greater Manchester Police and other Police forces across the UK has proved to be a partnership, which significantly benefits people and communities.

The National Trust's Calke Abbey. Also known as the The un-stately home and country estate. It is set in 600 acres of countryside and gardens, stables and outbuildings, and of course the main historic building, Calke Abbey in the glorious Derbyshire Countryside. It's a Grade I Listed Country House. The site was an Augustinian priory from the 12th century until its dissolution by Henry VIII. It dates back to 1701. It is owned by Harpur Baronets (Harpur and Harpur Crewe Families) The National Trust.
If ever a house deserved a reputation as a time-capsule, it's Calke Abbey. A perfect example of the family's eccentric behaviour is a magnificent state bed, a gift to a family member in 1714. The bed, with embroidered Chinese silk hangings, was never erected but remained in storage. The last family residents of Calke Abbey became Charles, and then Henry and Airmyne Harpur-Crewe. None of the three children married and the National Trust took over the property in 1984/5.
How old is the old man of Calke Abbey? Now known as the Old Man of Calke, this ancient oak is over 1,000 years old, but still continues to grows healthily.
Today, the National Trust's Calke Abbey is preserved, not restored. So you get to see it as it was left by its previous owners.

I was up at one of our local churchyards for my walk this morning when I noticed this female Mallard.
She was quacking away and then flew up into a hole in a tree, if she's nesting there I worry about the babies when they hatch.
The pond is just across a fairly busy road if they try to get there.

A notice on a tree next to the bear rescue centre says 'no poaching'. I wonder how many poachers will admit that they are poaching? Ang again, another of those signs regarding the dress code. It's sad how grown, adult humans have to be taught everything, including how to dress decently in public. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

I'm assuming this is a breeding/aggression display by a red-breasted merganser.
There were a number of males chasing each other.
The bird on the left lifted its tail, lowered its stomach and lifted its head.
This was followed by the merganser stretching his neck as long and tall as it could.
I haven't seen this behaviour before and it was interesting to watch.
