The beautiful Othello Tunnels near Hope, British Columbia, Canada.

About this photoWe recently bought a small used camper van as we want to enjoy some road trips in the future within Canada and the USA (shorter and longer).

We (daughter of 15, husband, myself and 2 dogs) took our camper van for a test run and went camping for one night in Hope, BC, Canada. We stayed at The Coquihalla Campground which was great and our test night was a success. We hope to be on the road again for a longer trip soon.

During our stay we visited the recently reopened Othello Tunnels which were about 15 minutes driving from our campground. These tunnels and the area is so beautiful and impressive.

I took this photo with my cell phone.

Some information about the Othello Tunnels in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park:

The Othello Tunnels were originally built in the early 1900's and are a straight line of tunnels that pass over the Coquihalla River and through granite. They were originally a series of five tunnels consiting of train tunnels and bridges that connected the Kootenay Region with the British Columbian coast through the Coquihalla Gorge.

The Othello Tunnels became part of Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park in May 1986. The former Kettle Valley Railway line, including the tunnels, was abandoned in 1961 after a major washout. The tunnels were then incorporated into the park's trail system where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature as well as it's rich history. Much of this park was washed out and damaged by a severe rainstorm in November 2021 and has been closed for visitors ever since. Recently 3 of the 5 tunnels have been restored along with other parts of the park and it has been partially reopened for visitors.

“At times the world may seem an unfriendly and sinister place,

but believe that there is much more good in it than bad.

All you have to do is look hard enough and what might seem

to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey.”

After catching fish and nursing her 3 cubs, a Grizzly Bear Sow dug a hole in the sand and fell asleep. One of her cubs stayed close by while she napped.

Sunrise comes early these days, but it's always so worth it. Even a cloudless sky can't dampen the feeling.

Todays image is quiet, peaceful and soothing as we are saddened by the imminent loss of a very good friend who has fought a long hard battle with cancer. The quote below is for him and all the others fighting or succumbed to this horrible disease!

“When someone dies of cancer, we say ‘they lost their battle with cancer’, as if between the two of them, cancer was the better, the stronger, and the smarter.

But if you think about it, if I die from cancer, then cancer dies too.

And if I survive cancer, cancer loses its battle with me.

Cancer never wins.”

These falls are beautiful in every season, winter has much more water flow. The path the water takes changes at the bottom of the falls with each winter storm and tide. Always fun to see where it is each time we visit. Awesome sunny afternoon to enjoy them.

A pretty rare scene lately where the sunset was actually quite dramatic and colorful. So far Raincouver has been living up the expectation where we hardly see the sun.

I am not sure when will the next time I will see this again, hopefully soon :)

Long exposure. Thank you for your appreciation, Gail

… a prominent feature of the island known for their rugged terrain and dramatic scenery ❤️

Arriving at Cox Bay near high tide during a king tide along with a winter storm was so amazing.

The power of the ocean was so incredible to watch as it tossed heavy logs and stumps about like toothpicks.

There was no beach left to walk on either as the higher than normal tide was coming right up to the trail entrance.

Note the crazy people up on the cliff - very dangerous place to be in a storm with ultra high tides and winds.

I love reflection and this is one of my archive picture taken at Capilano Lake in 2011.

Wish you a great Friday and weekend!

The following is the original story posted.

One time my photo club friend talked to me about reflection.

Reflection is always the favorite of photographers. However not every one of reflection is photogenic.

Surprisingly he said the most beautiful and photogenic reflection is not those appear like a crystal clear mirror image. Some distortions and blurry blending with good colors are better ones, he said. What counted as the best is always subjective though.

Will this be a good reflection I found on the day I shot Capilano Lake?

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!

This is the close up shot of the Capilano Lake reflection with Lions in background.

Happy Tuesday everyone!
